4.10.0 Beta Flint 3 - DPI Engine Data Stats stop working after 2 hours

Hello all,

Upgraded to the 4.10.0 Beta last night, noticed that the DPI Engine’s Data stats feature works for 2 hours then stops logging until a reflash of the firmware is carried out, works for 2 hours then stops again. I’m new to OpenWRT and not sure how or if I can restart the process/application without having to flash the router again.

Any ideas or guides that are for dummies?

Update - Resolved with a little bit of Gemini assistance.

And just what was that resolution?

(I just love that people say they have fixed something but do not elaborate what the fix is)

You need to remember that it is beta and along with using beta there will be issues.

Did you send feedback to Gl.inet? That would help them.

So it turns out that on beta builds of the firmware (according to Gemini) gl-inet apply a time expiring licence on the DPI engine, which is the behaviour I've seen with the 4.10 beta. Rolling back to 4.9.1 removes the 2 hour time limit that appears to be imposed.

Thanks....

So it is the beta.

Please read the first post properly and think about the way you’re replying to new users. I’ll quote myself to save you the time;

”I’m new to OpenWRT and not sure how or if I can restart the process/application without having to flash the router again.”

While my original post took 2 days to get approved, I did some digging myself through the forums and Gemini to find a resolution.

Hi,

So sorry about the confusion—it looks like Gemini might have mixed things up. The license bundled in v4.8.99 (now removed)and already indeed had a two-month expiration, but that’s no longer the case with v4.10.0. It’s completely unrestricted and won’t stop working.

Please give the v4.10.0 update another shot, If the issue persists, just shoot over the logs and a screenshot of what you’re seeing. Really appreciate your help with this!

Hi @bruce, I can confirm that something is going on with DPI Engine in 4.10.0 Beta for the Flint3, it’s most certainly stopping and failing to restart after 2 hours on my Flint 3, I can’t see any reason why in the log, QoS keeps working fine, but the Data Stats is on a 2 hour timer, after 2 hours it will stop, and then will only restart if the firmware is reflashed to the device, then again it runs for 2 hours and then stops, like clockwork.

Did a test again this morning. Updated the router shortly after this post, 2 hours in the Data stopped logging, reflashed the firmware, started again, and it’s just decided to stop logging again. Back to 4.9.1 for me. No more testing 4.10 until stable build releases.
