Any IVPN or Mullvad users here?

I know compared to using the apps, there are way fewer options to choose from when using a VPN with a router. I think multihop is one of the best features available for a router. However, how does one best optimize the server selection for performance, privacy, and security? Let's say for example, I select San Francisco as the entry point and Zurich as the exit point, what will my IP address be? Does it matter what the entry point is if and I'm assuming the IP I get is based on the exit point. Should I pick the entry point that is geographically closest to me?

From the way I understand it, the exit node is the IP that will be public. The entry node would be the one where the VPN would have access to your ISP IP the second sever would see the IP from the entry server this is where the extra privacy comes in because the entry and exit node are not the same. I hope this makes sense
