Can you just set up custom dns in the router?

One thing to note, if your dns is not accessible without vpn, please make sure in the ovpn, IP address is used instead of domain name. Otherwise openvpn will not be able to connect.

I just want to push my local dns server (specified by ip address) so that name resolution will work for my connected vpn clients. On this device the vpn client ignores this setting pushed from the openvpn server. It works for many other openvpn clients running on windows and linux.

My work around would be to configure a hosts file on this device, and maintain it. Where on disk would be the correct location to store this file?

this is openwrt/lede problem, now have “perfect work solution”, but “little stupid”. of course, you need the “*.ovpn” file. follow “Overview - GL.iNet Docs” upload your “*.ovpn” file you need use ssh connect your gl-inet router. cd /etc/openvpn ls -l, you will list the porcedure (2) uploaded ovpn file use vi to edit your ovpn file insert below (3) lines to your ovpn file 7.1 *** WHY NOT MODIFY OVPN FILE BEFORE UPLOAD ? *** because the gl.inet web upload will clear below 3 line. so you need mo…
