AX3000 not powering up

I just got an AX3000. I plugged it in and was able to set it up. Then I took it to my car and plugged it in to my USB-c port, but it did not power up. I tried multiple ports, it came on 1 time out of 10 tries (using a 100w cable). I know that my ports put out the required 5v and 3amp. Is this a problem with this router in general, or did I maybe get a bad one?

Hi

Could you please clarify and try the following:

  1. What is the exact model of the current device? Based on your description, we assume it is the MT3000.

  2. If you use the original power adapter and cable, does it work properly?

OK, after doing some more research, I found that MT3000 does not negotiate the USB-c PD very well. It appears that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. By using a USB-a to USB-c cable it seems to work fine in my car. This doesn’t help with powering from my laptop, as my laptop USB-a port doesn’t provide enough power.

  1. It is the GL-MT3000.
  2. It worked with the included adapter when I set it up. But if it will not work with a standard USB-a or USB-c, then this would be a completely useless product for me, as that adapter is big and there are most times that I would use it that I will not have a standard house 110v outlet and will just plug it into my laptop or a power pack.

Thank you for the update. We’re glad the issue has been identified and resolved.

The MT3000 itself does not support the PD protocol, so we recommend using it with a power adapter that provides a fixed 5V/3A output profile.

In addition, please note that some phone-oriented USB cables may modify certain pins to support higher power delivery, so please make sure you are using a standard USB cable.

If you would prefer a router that natively supports the PD protocol, you may also consider our newly released PD-supported devices:

If I would have known that this wouldn’t work with a PD charger, I would have got something else. I’ve never seen anything not work with PD. Would GL-iNet consider taking this back and I’d pay the difference to get the MT3600BE?

We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Please send an email to cs@gl-inet.com regarding paying the price difference to replace the MT3000 with an MT3600BE.
