axt1800 Flashed to Aircove Go, cannot connect by PPPoE?

I bought the AXT1800 router today and flashed the Aircove Go firmware onto it and I cannot connect to the internet at all.

My ISP uses PPPoE, the logs say “Unable to complete PPPoE Discovery”

I have put in the correct username and password. I have an FTTP connection and I am connecting the router to my ONT directly.

When I have googled, people are saying to go into Luci, but I don’t know how to go into Luci on the Aircove flashed router. I tried flashing it back to stock but it seems the Uboot does not work very well on Aircove and it is an utter pain to bring it up. I kept trying to bring it up following guides on the forum and gave up.

I did not expect it to be as difficult as this to setup. I thought it would be simple as Aircove has been around for a couple of years now.

Is there a way to get into Luci on Aircove? Is there a way to clone MAC addresses in Aircove? Is there any tricks or suggestions for PPPoE on FTTP connections connected directly to the ONT.

My ISP doesn’t seem to need any Vlan tagging. Or if it does I do not know how to Vlan tag on the Aircove?

Anyone have any ideas of what I can do here?

Why not use Express VPN on the stock firmware?

I assume that it would be better to get support from the Aircove team. I am not sure who maintains the firmware, but I guess they do.

However, I would recommend switching to the GL firmware again. Should work as described here: What should I do if my router is bricked - GL.iNet Router Docs 4

Sorry to intervene but I still gonna advise.

Please don't flash the Aircove firmware on a GL-iNet router.

I have read a couple of posts from people using a aircove router and trying to flash gl firmware and that wasn't possible, nor via U-boot, they seem to make it intentionally harder.

So this sounds to me that likely the partition layout is differently, you could cause real harm to your router, if this is altered, even if it is fine, it doesn't mean automatically on newer models, wifi could break, or upgrading isn't applying anymore, U-boot could be replaced.

So I hope this is not the case and you can flash back, it will be obvious in the logs if something happened on the partition side.
