Hi everyone.
I live in a slightly remote area, in a building with thick walls, so even though my area is supposedly covered by 5G, I can only get a stable 4G connection when inside, which is normally between 100mbps - 150mbps, so I am trying to get the most out of it.
I have a Beryl AX which I really like, and I am tethering my Samsung S21 FE to it. Normally, I was using USB tethering, which I would get the full 100mbps-150mbps out of, but sometimes I would have drops and slowness, and I read somewhere that Ethernet tethering would probably be more stable, so I wanted to give it a try. I bought a UGreen USB-C to Ethernet adapter and used Ethernet tethering option on my phone when tethering to the router, and it connects to the internet but now I can only get ~35mbps max. I thought maybe it is the adapter so I tried a full USB-C dock that has an ethernet port, also tried different cables but the results are the same.
Some notes:
- Both USB tethering and Ethernet tethering TTL values are 111.
- I am using the WAN port of BerylAX when Ethernet tethering.
- The phone is always at the same spot when trying different connections.
- When using ethernet tethering, I see the Negotiated Network Port Rate is 1000mbps duplex.
- As I said my mobile connection is not great, it is generally between -90dBm and -100dBm. (I am aware this is not optimal.)
- The test device I use Speedtest on is connected via LAN cable to Beryl AX’s LAN port.
- Generally speaking my ping is 25-30, both with USB tethering and Ethernet tethering.
Can anyone help me debug why is this happening?
