I have a firestick that I use for streaming. My VPN regularly drops out and I am looking at alternative options. I don’t necessarily want the entire house through a VPN router so was wondering if I can run an ethernet cable from my router into a brume 2 and then ethernet from that into the fire stick? This will mean that the fire stick can only connect through the brume 2 VPN. Is that an option or would this not work?
It is possible however you would obviously need to use a ethernet adapter for the firestick (no WiFi on the Brume 2). You can use the official Amazon one or make your own with a OTG cable and USB to ethernet adapter (has to be a certain chipset) the draw back is that the adapters only negotiate as 100mbits (fast ethernet) however that's still plenty. You would also need to run an ethernet cable to the firestick.
Personaly I would go with something like the Beryl AX - Very similar specs to the Brume 2 and it has built in WiFi so you can easily hook it up to your existing network and connect your firestick to its WiFi instead. I suspect your problems with the VPN drops are probably related your VPN provider, using the same VPN provider configs on any glinet product won't necessarily stop the drops if the problems lie with the VPN provider.
From within the Glinet routers you can choose to send all traffic via the VPN or selectively route certain devices, so again, you can achieve what you are asking.
Going back to your original setup, there's not really a need to introduce a glinet product to achieve what you are wanting. If your VPN provider was decent and you had a good WiFi connection or even a hardwire back to your original router along with the Amazon ethernet adapter then everything should work. You would just install the VPN providers app on your firestick and it would work. Getting a glient product won't miraculously stop any "VPN drops"
The benefit of using a glinet device is that your glinet router will be classed as being one VPN connection but as a result you can route more than one device throught it, bypassing the VPN providers devices limits. That and whole bunch of other great settings the glinet routers offer. But again, check out the Beryl AX, you will have the ability to connect the firestick via WiFi and not be limited to 100mbits of the Amazon ethernet adapter, you will also have the option to route any wireless clients via a VPN if needed too.
Thanks for taking the time to write an informative reply. I will certainly look into this.
