Can a GL.iNet travel router be used as media-streaming NAS?

I have tested a trail router Cudy TR/AC1200, to test the charging option in my EV car this worked fine.

I then decided to test a connected 1tb SSD with a lot of media files approx 900gb, this had had previously worked with a Asus RT68u powered from a 12v to 220 converter.

But the router found no files or folders (NTFS), I then tried to put some few media files to an exfat SSD and it saw them straight away and could stream to 3 devices simultaneously, now transferred 300gb media to this SSD and tried it again.....NO files found?????.

My plan is to buy a more expensive travel router (GL.inet, tp-link or similar), just afraid I will end up with the same result.

Has anyone tried this or similar with GL.inet travel router: GL-MT3000, GL-BE3600 or GL-MT3600BE.

I think there won't be much of a issue aslong you keep the drives as linux partition formats, especially for the 1tb.

Windows uses often their own file systems which not always are compatible under Linux.

Go with ext4 which is similar as gpt drives in Windows but for Linux.

Honestly I think it is more a misunderstandment with partition type compatibility than the router being the issue  , you may get the same result on the gl routers.

Sounds to me like a power problem. If you are powering the CUDY + SSD from a USB port, try a Y adapter to draw power from two USB ports. Or use a cigarette lighter type USB power source.

Thanks for the feedback, but won't I have an issue transferring files from Windows to the SSD then

The SSD works fine, and for now it is only powered from an adapter in the house, the issue appears when I put more files on the ssd

I have not formatted the ssd into ext4 but window wont recognize it, any tips to how to get files on it to thet the cudy. do i need 3party software to make it work?

Connect your SSD to your Cudy (why not asking in their forum)?
Create a shared folder (Samba) and a username + password.
Connect via network to your Router-SSD and copy your files.

I don’t own and don’t know the webinterface of the Router, but thats the way on gli-net Router.

thanks, i did not mean to write cudy but SSD, i just couldent figure out how to edit the post

If you want to stream media rather than copying files, you may need to go into Luci and install miniDLNA.
