The original interface app seems to be missing from the image. Can only access device through “Luci”.
I’ve tried to reinstall the firmware several times. Since the latest try, the device won’t even let me in, saying that I need to set a password, but doing it doesn’t seem to work.
I’m stuck.

Did you tried other firmware e.g. the clean firmware? It only has luci and your browser will cache the index page and redirect you to Luci.
When you flash the firmware back to the stock firmware, you may need to clear your browser cache or use custom url 192.168.8.1/index.html?
By adding a ? at the end the browser will not use the cached page.
When you have problem, you may also need to press F5 to refresh the webpage.
Always DON’T use IE, only use firefox, chrome or safari.
