Can't SSH into new Beryl

I'm trying to SSH into my new Beryl router. The instructions I've seen say to use "root" as the username, and the password used for the Web admin interface. So I enter:

$ ssh root@192.168.8.1

and I type in the admin password I used at setup. The password is rejected. Yes, I'm certain I'm typing the password correctly. I've used the same password from a couple of devices with Web browsers, it works fine there.

I'm not interested in remote SSH access, so I don't want GoodCloud; I just want to be able to ssh locally.

What am I doing wrong?

Apparently, I was doing nothing wrong.

I rebooted my Linux desktop, and then could ssh into the router without any issue.
