Reading this and the current compatibility list for eSIMs, are there any thoughts on T-Mobile USA postpaid? I see that the prepaid eSIM app is mentioned. A few months ago I took my Mudi v2 to a T-Mobile company-owned store and asked them to switch my line with a physical postpaid SIM card to eSIM and they had trouble understanding the concept of a physical eSIM card. That said, they insisted the only way this would happen would be if they input the Mudi’s IMEI into their eSIM system, which would claim that the Mudi v2 is not eSIM compatible. There was allegedly no way for them to issue an eSIM without an IMEI listed in their system as compatible. I didn’t get to find out officially their method of eSIM issuance, but I had a feeling they preferred a download method of some sort from an app, and not a QR Code.

Am I approaching this the wrong way? Are there any keywords or other jargon to mention to in-store staff?

At this stage, T-Mobile has not fully opened up eSIM services. Only devices that have passed eSIM certification can be found in their database. Some of our current products have not undergone certification, or they have been certified but the eSIM function was not added. Therefore, it’s not possible to purchase a native T-Mobile eSIM for these products.

We recommend that you purchase from a third-party eSIM store instead.

Preparing for a trip abroad. Just confirmed that I can download and install a Saily eSIM without hassle.

It DOES require you download their phone app, and login using a Google or Apple ID account, but once into the phone app you can choose to Share with someone else and it’ll give you the QR code.

Auto Setup in the Admin Panel worked without issue.

What are the chances the new SIMPoYo eSIM card SIMPoYo eSIM Physical Card|Data Only — GL.iNet EU will be compatible with standard Polish local providers like Orange, T-Mobile, Plus, Play?
I’m little concerned reading the compatibility list. I thought eSIM topic is simple - if it works with my phone, it will also work in this physical eSIM card. I want to use local providers, as they are much cheaper.

To let me better understand the problem, could you explain:

  • Are the problems mostly related to incorrect APN settings and can be solved by providing correct settings?
  • If not, can the problems be solved typically by activating the eSIM profile in Android smartphone and then moving the card to the router?
    • Or: the problem is the eSIM profile doesn't activate on this physical card at all, even on Android phone?
    • Or: activation on Android phone works fine, data works fine on the phone, but after moving the card to the router (with correct APN settings) it doesn't work there? Maybe something like IMEI related problem?

I was about to buy GL-X3000 with this eSIM card, but now I need more info...

Hi, the SIMPoYo eSIM card is compatible with the esim services in the list, but not compatible with Orange. The Orange esim cannot be installed due to the operator restrictions

Plus and Play esim in Poland has not been tested, sorry we cannot guarantee these two esims will work with SIMPoYo esim card.

The EID of the mobile phone and eSIM are different. Some eSIMs can only be acivated/installed on specific devices with certain EIDs. Please check with the local eSIM provider for any restrictions, such as EID limitations.

Thanks for clarification. So it's not a matter of providing correct settings and cannot be worked around by registering eSIM on a phone first.

Yes. To use eSIM on GL routers, first need to upload and install the QR code (eSIM profile) onto the eSIM card. After esim is installed, cellular settings (e.g. APN) are required for network connectivity.

Based on our experience, incompatible errors typically occur during esim installation. This is mainly due to the restrictions from esim operator, not related to the cellular settings like APN/IMEI, etc.

Just tested with Roamless (eSIM for Travel, eSIM App | Roamless) ,it took the QR code, installed the esim and was able to connect to the internet.

Hi Cathy,

do you have an update to this topic? Is the a solution for using Vodafone DE esim with xe3000?

Thanks so much for the sharing :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
May I ask which type of esim card you use, the EIOTCLUB physical esim card or the simpoyo esim card?

Hi @Rapin the simpoyo eSIM card is compatible with more eSIM service providers, including Vodafone DE. You can use it with XE3000.

Noted. Many thanks

I am using the Eiotclub card.

However, I have no problems with the installation of the esims, but with the initial connection / activation, that does not work with some ISPs like Vodafone DE.

Ah, and maybe for the forum. Previous to my post I had a private chat with Cathy about my esim usage during holiday, that I like to share with the community as well.

XE3000 + with regional bytesim esim (Europe)

  • Belgium: working with various ISPs
  • France: working with various ISPs
  • Germany: working with Telekom DE, not working with Vodafone DE

Remark: When buying an regional esim it is not obvious, which ISPs will be used for the country specific physical connection. That depends on the contacts that the esim provider (e. g. bytesim) made with the local ISPs.

With bytesim the card for Germany only was hosted by Vodafone DE, however the regional card was hosted by Telekom DE. However, they changed that to Vodafone - leaving me disconnected and that's why I want to try the new SIMPoYo eSIM Physical Card.

Truely esim works on EIOT

The SIMPoYo instructions read:

Insert your SIMPoYo SIM Card into any unlocked device.

Then go to: https://w.simpoyo.com/activate/

I have XE3000 routers and run vanilla openwrt-24.10.4 on them (so: no eSIM router GUI).

note : any

Does this (y/n) mean one does not need the GL.iNet router GUI, and, does this mean I can insert the eSIM card in an Android phone, or, in my vanilla openwrt-24.10.4 XE3000, which then, I assume must, and can, be online via respectively WiFi or WAN interface, and activate SIMPoYo via web interface? And then use?

That would be great!

Thanks for your excellent devices, I own many and recommend many

Hello sir, we have simpoyo 4G/5G sim card and simpoyo physical esim card, both of two can be used on phone and router devices:

  • simpoyo 4G/5G sim card: regular sim card, need be activated in Activate SIM Card - Simcard Glinet.
  • simpoyo physical esim card: esim card, plug and play, can install and store up to 8 esim profiles,

You may have the 4G/5G sim card and not a physical esim card. So GL GUI doesn't have the esim management.
You can visit this page to learn about Simpoyo cards and how to use them.
