You can’t replace something with nothing. If you don’t like Cloudflare, then you should come with an alternative that gives same value that people get from Cloudflare

GL-iNet’s hardware is not good for privacy seekers anyway. Their hardware has phoning-home problem. Blocking *.gl-inet.com will cripple some functionality. It was silently fixed in recent firmware after reported by user.

Cloudflare’s DNS outperforms other public DNS in almost every part of the world.
Instead, their DNS requires optimizing the communication path based on user tracking information and does not offer an option to avoid privacy breaches.

However, if you look at other routers on the market, most of them make vulnerable DNS requests according to the privacy policy that is not much different from 1.1.1.1.
It’s great that GL-iNet offers a “slower and more secure” DNS server option than its competitors, but should include options for users seeking “privacy breaches, and fastest”.

Some GL-iNet products support AdGuard Home. And all the products that AdGuard sells include Cloudflare in their custom DNS presets.
- They do not claim that Cloudflare is safe, but show the scope of their privacy policy so that everyone can choose with an understanding of the dangers. It looks like a fair approach
Cloudflare optimizes the communication based on the location information of the edge network even if the EDNS subnet is hidden. (for faster request, or probably for evil purposes…) To that end, they at least share information about each other’s network edges with Google.
- If you don’t trust them, you should avoid Cloudflare and Google’s edge network. It’s bloody hard for me…
