Compiling/installing new kernel modules

I’ve noticed quite a few kernel modules that aren’t available from the repos and so installed openwrt based on the Domino instructions and patches. After configuring the kernel to enable the needed modules I compiled everything and then tried installing them on my Domino before immediately running into problems with kernel panics, causing a reboot loop. Using either the packages I compiled or the modules on their own I get the same issue with panics. I’ve included an example of a boot sequence that fails due to a panic below. The kernel version matches but there seems to be a critical difference between the modules I compile and the ones from the repos and default install, anyone have any suggestions?

Just a quick follow-up… Would it be possible to get a copy of the (clean/non-binary) source tree used to compile the modules/kernel found on http://domino.io/firmware/pi/1.1/packages/base/ ?? It would probably be easier than trying to determine what I did wrong applying patches or setting options when I built my copy.

If you select domino-pi package, it will automatically select related modules/packages, then you need to select your own package.

Yes, that’s where I got the code to compile from. The problem is not compiling the modules, it’s that the modules I compile cause a kernel panic. Would it be possible to submit a list of modules we’d like to see compiled for the Domino? The kernel seems to be one of the most complex parts of a system to configure and so being able to request compiled modules would be great. This would prevent differences in compilers/code versions/settings from causing problems like the panics I saw.

Actually,
I downloded some of the packages from:
http://domino.io/firmware/pi/1.1/packages/base/
Then I Unzipped just the commands and copied them to my Usb FlashDisk.
This FlashDisk was then plugged into the PI and CORE Boards,

and now I can execute the Commands (fsdisk, mke2fs, etc) without actually installing any packages.

I’ve looked at the available package files and there are just a lot of kernel modules that are missing for various USB devices, so unfortunately it’s not as simple as downloading and copying them over.

If you want to install via SDcard , first save the packages to the SDcard FAT Partition (I used /Packages/ dir).
Then, plug the SDcard into the DominoIO, and run the command below (opkg install):


cd /mnt/SDP1_FAT/Packages

root@domino:/mnt/SDP1_FAT/Packages#  opkg install e2fsprogs_1.42.4-1_ar71xx.ipk  libext2fs_1.42.4-1_ar71xx.ipk libcom_err_1.42.4-1_ar71xx.ipk
 Installing e2fsprogs (1.42.4-1) to root...
 Installing libext2fs (1.42.4-1) to root...
 Installing libcom_err (1.42.4-1) to root...
 Package libext2fs (1.42.4-1) installed in root is up to date.
 Package libcom_err (1.42.4-1) installed in root is up to date.
 Configuring libcom_err.

 Configuring e2fsprogs.

But, I could not find libcom_err.so.0 - so I linked it:


root@domino:/mnt# ln -s /usr/lib/libcom_err.so.2 /usr/lib/libcom_err.so.0

This gave me mke2fs, so now, with fdisk, I can make 2 partitions on the SDCard: FAT and Linux.
