Hello, I’ve been spending the past 3-4 days trying to get a setup to work (why is networking so complicated lol) and I was hoping someone can help point me in the right direction.
I currently have a Flint3 and a Linksys MR7500 (IPQ6018) currently flashed with DDWRT but can flash OpenWRT, and a WRT1900ACS (Marvell) with DDWRT, a little old but has strong wireless. What I ideally want is for my Flint3 to be my main router, and use a second as an extender/mesh/something that would work well with my ONVIF IP cameras. I’ve tried using a Linksys RE315 range extender while I was using the MR7500 as my main to connect them, and they would either only have one work, or neither work, I am not sure why.
What route should I go? Is it worth retrying the RE315 with the flint instead of the 7500? Can the two openwrt routers connect in a way that properly handles the ONVIF camera traffic?
Thanks!!
Hi
Could you clarify which device is experiencing the issue and what kind of difficulty you’re encountering?
From your description, it seems that the main router (MR7500 or Flint 3) is working fine, but the issue arises when configuring the second router (RE315) in Extender mode—am I understanding this correctly?
If so, since the RE315 is not our device and we’re not very familiar with DD-WRT, we may not be able to provide much assistance.
We recommend referring to their documentation or seeking help from the relevant community.

Not quite, I wasn’t reporting an issue persay, I was asking for network advice on how to achieve my goals with my flint3. I’ve since flashed my MR7500 with openWRT and I spent way too long struggling to set up WDS to realize there is a country code = 00 bug with the version I had.
It would be nice if there was mesh support or something to really make this more simple, I feel like I need a networking degree to set up an extended network.
Configuring Extender/WDS mode through native OpenWRT can indeed be quite difficult.
That’s why the GL.iNet UI provides a dedicated interface to switch modes with one click:
As for Mesh support, we may introduce it for Flint 3 and Slate 7 in a future minor release after v4.9, but it is not supported at the moment.
