DNS setting in glinet Ethernet settings vs Luci settings Flint 2

I have a simple question I’ve been researching and trying to learn some stuff and it’s taken me down a great rabbit hole. So I’ve digging deeper and learning DNS. I just need to know this basis of…..On the “Internet “ section of the Flint 2 interface and in the ethernet section shows the DNS addresses of my ISP and I clearly have the DNS set for NextDNS in the Network – DNS section and my NextDNS web page show I’m using their DNS. I was wondering why front page shows my IPS’s addresses?

Now I look under LUCI Network - Interfaces - WAN shows a check mark for “Use DNS servers advertised by peer”…….does the gl-inet settings overide those of the ISP’s showing on the front page of webapp? Now if I go to modify something just tells me I want to change the DNS settings to either my router gateway or to the address I see on my NextDNS webpage. Or does override all clients do the job? DNSLeaksTest shows Im good but is that upstream from the ISP? I’m learning and someday may have my own DNS server but for now I’m trying to figure this out. ty

Device Model - GL.iNet GL-MT6000

Firmware version -v4.8.3

Hello,

The Internet - Ethernet (WAN) section only shows the DNS addresses obtained from the upstream device (or the ISP modem).

When you switch the DNS mode under Network - DNS, for example to NextDNS, (by default) your clients will use that DNS server and will no longer use the ISP’s DNS.

The other DNS options are just auxiliary settings, you can learn about each one from its accompanying description.

Great, I figured as much, fun learning and going down this rabbit hole, tyvm
