im considering replacing my verizon router with the flint 3, however verizon uses an external 5G antenna as a modem, will the router be able to speak to it?
Hi
Flint 3 does not include a built-in cellular modem and therefore does not have a port for connecting a 5G cellular antenna.
If you’d like to use cellular for internet access, you’ll need an external cellular modem, such as our GL-M2 5G Development Board or another model listed in the Compatible Modems List.
Or you may consider our cellualr router like GL-X3000 / Spitz AX - GL.iNet
the cellular modem is external, its an AIO reciever that has ethernet out
this is the cellular modem, has an IMEI and everything
The question is, how it is connected to the Verizon modem at the moment?
The antenna is only the part that receives and transmits the RF for a special frequency or frequency range. It just needs a port like SMA to work.
But if the SIM and everything is in the box, it maybe needs a driver, if it is connected via USB or it needs special routing if it is connected via Ethernet.
Some more details would help.
SIM is in the antenna, also, i can confirm it does work. i just got the flint. it was plug and play
So we still don't know which device it is. But in the end it works as expected, great.
Congratulations to your upgrade!
the antenna is the cellular modem
the antenna is connected to the router via a PoE injector that comes with the antenna only the antenna is powered this way, the other ethernet jack connects the router to the modem inside the antenna
