Can one choose which radio will be the STA in repeater mode in every one the dual radio travel router models?

Yup… & 2.4GHz has better penetration range than 5GHz for ‘backhaul.’ No hotel is going to give a client anywhere near the max. available bandwidth of 802.11n/2.4GHz anyway.
