Just thought I’d pop a quick “Howdy in”.

First time I’ve ever used non ISP provided equipment at home so I bought a flint2 and a rasberry pi 5 to roll my own internal network (because we all know why lol).

Have to say it was initially a mixed experience (caveat). Tried to set up what I wanted (multiple SSID’s, pihole on a pi behind the router (which I eventually want to do more on), destination based VPN policy, multiple VPN’s (Surfshark, wireguard etc and as few leaks as possible).

Turned out a little tricky on 4.7.x (or maybe it was because it was my first time ever using OpenWRT and I was simply getting used to things (and even open source stuff in general - I’m a 99.9% windows guy)…

Upgraded the FW To 4.8.x and it just works - couldn’t be happier. What a great FW version.

My WiFi signal is far superior to my old Virgin Hub 5 (even in my weird old house that has more RSJ’s than wooden beams). I have my ‘devices’ SSID, my internet SSID and my private SSID on separate subnets - all working and the firewall between them is great. I have PiHole doing all resolution and logging and blocking for everything. I have my select websites going through the wireguard tunnels based on destination domain, the rest going out through WAN. Kill Switch works. Even though all DHCP clients on the router are using only the routers main LAN IP as DNS they correctly register as unique clients in pihole (edns ftw)…

Just wanted to say what a great router and a great experience it was to get everything I wanted set up and just running smooth as possible (with FW 4.8.x). Looking forward to really extending this stuff out with extra services on the RasPi…

Kudo’s all around and hope I can return the favour by answering any forum questions etc.
