Feature Request for GL-X3000 - Cell Modem Temp to FAN

Hi,

I live in a country with a bit of Heat year round. I learned today after receiving the X3000 that the fan doesn’t turn on until the CPU reaches 70c. However, this is triggered by CPU and not Modem Temp. This leads to a problem when the Cell Modem Temp gets too hot and freezes or shuts off or malfunctions. Cell Modem tends to get very hot with continuous use while the CPU can still be cool.

I will try to SSH in to get the fan to kick on earlier to help for now but would like a Firmware Change/Update Request:

Please combine the CPU / MODEM at Temp Triggers. The CPU can be at a low temp but the Modem Temp can be very high overheating. It is a separate module to the X3000 from the diagrams. The fan will not turn on even thou the MODEM module is already super hot!

This might be why some are having failures, disconnect, malfunctions even thou the CPU is lower temp.

PLEASE FIX or Provide Solution GL-Inet

Thank you…

Look into this reddit comment, it tells you how set the fan to lower temperature.

If the router is always in the same spot, just get one of those laptop fan. Having the internal fan 24/7 at max will reduce its lifespan and it is not replaceable.

Hi,

Thank you for the suggestion.
We will review this with the product team to evaluate whether it can be included in a future release.

In the meantime, could you provide screenshots that show a clear temperature difference between the CPU and the cellular module? This will help us better present the request.

  1. The cellular module temperature can be retrieved using the AT command AT+QTEMP.

  2. The CPU temperature can be found in System > Overview.

Thank you… I already have a 80cm x 2 fan in my cart from Amazon for a backup in case the fan curve change is not enough… I already adjusted the FAN curve via SSH for now. // A Staff member gave me a AT commands to test the temps of the Modem. I will reverse my changes soon and test during daytime. I had other Cell/Router units before that often would freeze, restart, loose connection often. I concluded the modem was overheating or bad firmware. Since I am in a hotter than usual climate, heat was my conclusion. I really hope they can at the Modem Temp as part of the FAN on/off curve.

Hi, wanted to follow up today with what I’ve done. I have ran the System in Stock settings with Fan off until higher Temp threshold.

AT+QTEMP > appears to almost be matching the CPU Temp reported in the GUI. Today is about 29c in my area with a lot of overcast.

I need to wait until a hotter day and more time to test.
