I have a network with two Flint 2 routers, one acting as a router and the second one as AP.
I just purchased a TUYA smart lock with camera but the Routers basically refuse to connect or allow the lock to connect to the network.
Now, this is where it becomes interesting.
I also have a Beryl AX, If I connect either as a repeater, a router or AP then I can add the lock to the App as well as being able to control it.
I also happen to have another Flint 2 which is brand new as I have not deployed it yet in the shed.
If I try to use it in the same way I use the Beryl AX it does not work. So I can’t connect to the lock with the Flint 2 being used as a repeater, router or AP.
So other than connecting yet one more device inside the house (Beryl AX) how could I access the lock? Why would none of the Flint 2 routers can be used?
I have tried everything.
Separated networks, Using only 2.4g, different channels, different security settings, WMM on and off, different wifi modes.
Weird. Is the first Flint v2 on a similar version number to the Beryl AX? I'd check that first. Go for the most current 'stable'. There's also a separate -op24 (OpenWrt 24) based firmware version that many people report general satisfaction with but I would try the mainline 'stable' first:
I wouldn't recommend 'keeping settings' when flashing until this is resolved. It seems best to start with a clean slate each time. I'd also do a site survey as a matter of course:
I think the problem lies within the Tuya lock and not the routers.
For some reason ir kept refusing connection until I used the Beryl AX in repeater mode, turned off the Flint 2s 2.4ghz wifi and basically made the Beryl’s network a copy of the Flint’s (SSID, password, ip range)
Once I created the network and connected the lock, then I turned off the Beryl and restarted the Flint’s wifi.
Since I did that, the lock connects. However. I am not happy with how Tuya manages the device, there is too much chatter between the lock and the Tuya servers. So I am just going to run it offline.
I tried to add the lock to Home Assistant using Tuya-local and Local-Tuya but I was not able because it is running some very strange policy and basically hides de MAC and IP addresses. I was not able to see the lock connect to the network at all, no matter what I did.
So at this stage you can close this one as the issue is totally the lock’s fault and Tuya strange implementation.
