Flint 2: macbook Pro M4 and Air M4 problems on 5Ghz

Premise: 5Ghz works from all my other devices: iPads, XiaomiTV, Android devices, PC.

I had some connectivity problam on my mac so I split the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz to try to pinpoint the problem.
On 2.4Ghz all is good.
On 5 Ghz, depending on the configuration, both my macbooks do not connect, or if they manage to connect, they are basically unusable: sometimes all conections go timeout, sometimes huge latencies with more than 70% packet loss.

I tested with:

  • all combination of Wi-Fi security: WPA 2, WPA 3, etc
  • channel: auto, manual on 36, manual on 44 (and other free bands, checking with a wifi scanner)
  • Bandwidth: 40MHz, 80MHz, 160MHz
  • BSSID randomizer: on, off
  • TX power, Max, medium
  • Wi-Fi Mode: all combinations (11a/n/ac, 1a/n/ac/ax, etc)

I changed the country from DE to IT (where I live) in the advanced settings.
Nothing changed. In some cases I’m not even able to connect, after inserting the password. When I do connect It is still unusable.
Don’t know what else to do.

Tested my work Wifi and my Macbook connects effortlessly to 5Ghz and works perfectly fine, with Unifi routers.

Can you check if both devices are on the latest version of their software?

Also you may want to set the private Mac address in your WiFi network option on the Mac to Off/Fixed to see if that helps.

Hi,

Could you please help check and provide the following information:

  1. Regarding the issue where the MacBook cannot connect to the 5GHz Wi-Fi, please let the MacBook attempt to connect several times. After it fails naturally, export the Flint 2 logs and send them to us via private message for analysis.

  2. Also, have you checked the 5GHz signal strength at the MacBook’s location? If the signal is weak, then connection failures, instability, timeouts, or packet loss may be normal behavior.

  3. Besides the MacBook, do other devices at the same location experience similar issues? For example, your phone or tablet.

  4. Please open two terminal windows on the Mac and continuously ping:

    • The router’s LAN IP address (default: 192.168.8.1)
    • A public IP address, such as 8.8.8.8

This will help determine where the latency issue is occurring.

How to export logs:

How to send private messages:

I sent you via message logs after connection failure from both my MAcbook Air and Macbook Pro

Thank you for providing the logs.

We will have our development team check them and update you afterward.

We checked the logs and found

  • the MacBook Pro/Air M4 was able to connect to the 5GHz SSID
  • and successfully obtain an IP address via DHCP
  • but was then disconnected because it did not respond to PMF (a mandatory WPA3 feature) from the router.

We recommend trying the following:
Change the 5GHz SSID encryption mode from WPA3 only to either WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode or WPA2 only and see whether that helps.

If the issue still persists, please continue exporting the logs for us to analyze further.

As already staded at the beginning, I tested with all Wi-Fi security compinations, including WPA 2 only, and Mixed.

The strange thing is that the behavior is erratic: for example now it is connecting to the 5Ghz but then suddenly it stop working and it is not even able to reconnect. Again, the problem is only with the MAcBooks: windows pc and android devices have not troubles even when the mac is not able to connect.

Thank you for providing the WPA2-only logs. We will ask the development team to further check.

Yes, we are aware of that. However, based on the logs, it appears that this was the reason for the disconnection.

So we may need to make some adjustments on settings and investigate further whether there are any additional underlying causes as well.

We have already checked the logs, but unfortunately there do not seem to be many relevant clues available at the moment.

Could you please follow the guide and share your device with us via GoodCloud so we can check it remotely?

Kindly note to send us the MAC address and the router password via private message so we can access it

I sent addidtional logs because you said the problem was with the WPA3 PMF mssing response, but sometimes I cannot connect even with WPA2 only. What did you see in the WPA2 connaction fail logs? What was the cause?

Did you change the private wifi address to fixed or off on the MacBooks? Also are any peripherals connected when you face this problem?

In the WPA2 connaction fail logs, we did not see any related error messages. The MacBook simply disconnected from the network without any obvious indication of what caused it.

And thank you for providing GoodCloud remote access.

Our development team has already made some adjustments to the settings.

Could you please:

  1. Change the Private Wi-Fi Address setting on the MacBook to Off (fixed/disabled), so that we can more easily track the device in the logs going forward.
  2. Check whether the MacBook still experiences the issue with the current settings. If it does, please continue to export the logs and send them to us via private message. We will investigate further.
  1. it already set to Fixed

  2. will do.

Can I ask which “adjustments” have been made? Because I only see the password security set to WPA2.

I had faced a similar problem when connected to a dock with cheap cables, the wifi wouldn’t work with the dock connected.

Also try turning the private address to off for once.
