Is anyone using an SSD disk with a Flint 2 MT6000 successfully ?
I tried a 256GB usb memory stick and it works great but when I connected an external SSD disk it kept failing and disconnecting, I tried with ext4, NTFS and FAT so I wondered if SSDs disk also need an external power feed ? If so can anyone recommend a good cable PSU splitter ?

SSD use less power than an HDD, and USB3 port provide more than enough for HDD. Yes, I have used both on Flint 2 without any issues. Try a different usb cable.
Could be a firmware bug in the Flint 2 router. Re-flash routers firmware via UBoot.
I also had this problem with an SSD drive.
I noticed a dependence on the manufacturer of the SSD box controller. I tried JMicron and Realtek, but strangely the work was unstable. Then I bought an SSD box on an Initio controller, and now it works without disconnects.
Then, I needed to connect 2 SSD drives. I bought Ugreen CM219 (50985), connected it to a 2-watt Samsung charger as an external power, connect 2 SSDs, and everything works just fine. Flint2 sees both SSDs, via a cat5e cable through a gigabit port, the speed in the local network is 100-110 Mbps.
Both disks are NTFS.

Firmware has nothing to do with your issues or USB3 wattage output.
If you are using 3rd party NVME SSD enclosure, then the problem lies with SSD enclosure. You might have to update firmware for Realtek chipset for SSD enclosure or JM chipset based enclosure.
Again, issues you are facing, have nothing to do with the router it self.
I mentioned the firmware version because it's a beta and you said it could be a firmware bug ?
I am using a Gigabyte 120GB SSD disk with a little plug in dongle which works perfectly on my raspberry pi and windows laptop, I'm going to experiment with a powered USB hub.
Yes please do. The router USB output is quite limited compared to computer.
