Flint firmware update

I see openwrt stable release is now 24.10.

The beta firmware 4.8.2 for the Flint/AX-1800 uses openwrt 23.05.

When do we get a beta firmware from GL-iNet for AX-1800 (flint) that use openwrt 24.10 ?

Nu hurry, just a curious question.

Or can i install this openwrt snapshot (snapshot can have bug) OpenWRT snapshot for AX-1800 / Flint (no gui, no Luci, ssh all the way) Unfortunately, their is only a (developers) snapshot at openwrt, their is no stable release for Flint.

Flint does not have plans to update the op version for now.
If you need the latest op version, please flash Vanilla OpenWRT directly.

Thanks for the reply.

I stay on GL-iNet beta 4.8.2. It run smooth, and also because i cannot find “Encrypted DNS - Oblivious DNS over HTTPS” setting in Luci  .

By the way, where is the bluetooth chip and antenna used for in the flint/AX-1800 ?

I don’t see bluetooth tethering at multiwan settings, assuming cellular goes by usb cable?

I also don’t see any bluez related packages in Luci software at GL-iNet firmware (we can make the router as a audioplayer for play usb storage to bluetooth speaker, if we want :joy: ).

Well I sure hope there will be an update soon for the Flint 2 router. It has trouble maintaining the SQM setup which parameters are correct, but it either doesn’t shape the traffic, allowing for variations in latency or it does for a while, and then will randomly stop working until I go in and fix it either with a manual restart or full reboot.

Very disappointing as this is one of the reasons I got this router in the first place. Tinkering with upnp when installed through luci is also unreliable as it doesn’t seem to open the ports necessary for instance an online game.

A more straight forward way of updating the built in AdGuard UI without having to use a script for those not a tech savvy with cmd lines and linux, etc. Not sure if this is possible, but would be awesome.

And security updates like other manufacturers out there do for there network devices? Just throwing this out there, wanting to see the device to continue to get support and love since I recently got it about a couple months ago.

@N0MaD, last update of flint2 is about 17 days ago (2025-09-25), and a snapshot (can be unstable) of 3 days ago (2025-10-09)

The last stable one I see is from 9/1 of last month which I'm currently on. I suppose you're referring to the beta on 9/25 4.8.3.

Don't want to risk it with the snapshot variants as stability is very important for my network.

Thank you, I hope to see continued support for this model. Curious though, what do the snapshot versions have included that different on the daily? Just daily internal tweaks and changes? I always look for release notes

I always use the beta firmwares. Only with the older 4.7.x beta was a issue, that makes me to update to latest stable firmware.

Here on my flint1 the beta 4.8.2 is very stable.( i don’t see issues in log)

If you experience issues with latest stable, and the beta is newer version, i recommend you to use the 4.8.2 beta.

Maybe update without keeping settings, and setup settings manually after the update.

(if it is too much just update with settings)

The snapshots are the ones that have higher possibilities to bugs.

Just reserved for 2B customization version.
There is actually no SMD Bluetooth chip in 2C standard version.
It is actually not used for network sharing but originally planned for IoT.

I updated and made a separate post... having some serious issues with getting back online and running. Can't install packages like luci-SQM, can't update current packages due to incompatibility.. This thing is a mess...

Edit: Rolled back to the latest stable again. Seems to have restored functionality.. going to continue setting up from scratch.

Sure, there will continue to be firmware updates and releases.

This is due to some reasons of the supplier, and it is difficult for us to improve it on SDK layer.

I will share this to the PM team for evaluation.

Any update of new firmware process of Flint 1 (Ax-1800)?

Is their a beta yet with newer openwrt?

It takes so long. Last beta release is months ago, last stable release more then year ago.

There are related plans for the GL firmware release, but the OpenWRT version may not be updated.

Please wait a moment.

I see new beta firmware. 4.8.3 (26 December 2025)

Website say “The OpenWRT version has been upgraded. Please do NOT keep settings when downgrading to an earlier version.”

I just installed it, but openwrt version is 23.05 instead of stable 24.10. So what is upgraded?

Merry x-mas and happy new year folks !

It should say in the release notes.

It's also unlikely that the flint 1 will ever get a release based on 24.10.x

It's now being tested for community openwrt 25.12.x which if successful, the gl-inet release will likely be based on that branch.

Yesterday i flashed the ax-1800/Flint1 to openwrt-25.12.0-rc1-qualcommax-ipq60xx-glinet_gl-ax1800-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin within Luci on original 4.8.3. gl-inet firmware.

But the device was not working properly, not accessible with http or ssh over lan1 port. (192.168.1.1) .

So flashed back to original GL-Inet 4.8.3 beta with older openwrt. (Uboot is a nice invention)

Yes, there's a reason that it's in release candidate stage, they need people to test it.

Hopefully you reported this to the community openwrt developers.

IPQ6XXX just got mainstream support as of 25.12.x, before this, it was in snapshot phase with limited support at all.

I reported it on openwrt forum, at gl.inet ax1800 topic and 25.12.x topic.

I’m on openwrt 25.12 rc1 now with my Flint1 (Ax-1800).

It works perfect. What i did wrong is, flashing it in GL.inet firmware with bin file from 25.12.

You need to use Uboot (unbrick option) and flash the UBI file of 25.12 from openwrt firmware selector.

Then you have a basic openwrt with Luci. (default it uses 192.168.1.1 as lan ip).

NOW DON’T DO THIS IF YOU NOT EXPERIENCED WITH openwrt/luci.

Because their is indeed a learning curve when doing openwrt setup for first time.

GL.inet webinterface is easy for unexperienced users. So first learn understand openwrt with luci in GL.inet firmware. So no interests or need or time to learn openwrt, just keep your Flint on original GL.inet firmware.
