Router keeps dropping off my client connection to hotel captive portal. Pulled this from the syslog.

I checked but I don’t know why. Does it work on both 2.4G or 5G?

Just returned from a trip staying in a Hilton with captive portal and using an AR750S v3.201. The Slate was in router mode using factory defaults except for the SSIDs and keys. Everything set up as expected, connected to the hotel WiFi and signed into the captive portal. But after about a day, the slate would “freeze” and completely drop its WiFi signals with the LEDs off. It had to be rebooted and re-connected (including a new scan I think) to get back to normal operation. That happened repeatedly, and was NOT due to the portal needing to be refreshed. I once caught the failure happening and the LEDs turned to solid on for a short time and then off. I have a WiFi scanner app on my phone and there was no signal from the slate on either 2.4 or 5G. I tried connecting the slate to the Hotel’s 2.4G and 5G signals and auto-scan on and off and the “freezing” continued. I did not have time to do any trouble shooting. If I had to guess I would suspect a memory leak.

Thanks for the update.

Hilton seems to use some technology to prohibit router connecting. I am surprised that you can still connect.

We are aware of this issue and hope to find a way to fix. Due to the pandemic didn’t have much chance to travel.

A further update for anyone who is reading this thread. I have been running the same situation at home now with the AR750S connected to my home WiFi. I have not had any duplication of the issue that I had at the Hilton in several days of continuous operation. The problem appears to be related to the Hilton connection. I hope that you can figure out what they might be doing.

This was my first travel in over a year due to the pandemic.

I found this thread interesting:

It seems some hotels are forcing a reconnect at 24 hour intervals across all devices, including but not limited to travel routers. It does seem if there was a way to manage this with a travel router it would be a huge plus.

All I can further add, this was at a Comfort Suites.
