I am curios, if I back up the config file from my router and later restore from it, will it restore all confif settings 1:1 (VPN configs, file sharing, etc.)?
Or is there something it doesn't back up and I need to know?

It will restore all settings and configs - but not self-installed software.
So mostly, yes, it will restore everything, but you need to run opkg again for packages you installed by yourself.

Have 2x AR750S, 1 currently used as main internet and 1 unit as a spare in case of main fail.
I backup the main unit monthly using the Luci backup feature and store that on various backup storage devices so can access to do a restore if or when necessary.
I did read somewhere that if you restore from a backup the MAC details in the unit your are restoring to are over written from the backup - can someone please elaborate if this is true or not and what effect this may have.
I would like to connect the backup unit to the network and restore the Luci data to it monthly as well so both the main and backup are identical.
Note - not additional software is installed just the standard 4.3.25 firmware.
