The flash storage in the AX1800 is not sufficient to install utilities like ‘speedtest’ due to Python libraries dependencies. I am thinking of adding an USB pen drive (32 GB) and use it to extend the flash storage.
I have used the method outlined here OpenWrt extroot configuration on a Netgear R8000P router successfully.
However, I have no idea if the same will work with the AX-1800 GL.iNet’s forked OpenWrt firmware.
Please share your experience if you done this.
I would also like to hear from the GL.iNet’s support staff in this forum re: viability of the extroot configuration.
Hi
I think you can give it a try by following the OpenWRT community tutorials.
However, please note that on some devices or firmware versions, due to compatibility issues in the underlying OpenWRT implementation, additional configuration may be required to make extroot work properly.
Alternatively, you could switch to vanilla OpenWRT.
Thanks for the reply. On the switch to OpenWrt, that thought had crossed my mind
I notice that there is a 25.12.0.rc4 image for the AX1800!
I am using the device in “production” at a place of worship so I can’t experiment with release candidates. I’ll wait till 25.12 is officially released.
