GL-E5800 / Mudi 7 seems DOA - any SIM I try "not registered"

Excited to try the Mudi 7 as it would be useful to have something where you can drop an esim QR or activation string and be good to go. But this one seems DOA. Has anyone else seen this?

Unit new in box. Put on wifi repeater and let it update to 4.8.5 (the June 3, 2026 build)

Insert pSIM into SIM1 slot. That SIM is provisioned for data and not IMEI locked.

It sees the network when I scan manually and the APN is already correct. But it doesn't connect.

Switch to ESIM, activate the IOTclub esim that ships with the unit. Same story.

Buy an Airalo esim, install it while on wifi repeater mode. Same story “SIM not registered”. APN, ICCID are all correct and I can manually scan networks and see a strong signal.

Buy US mobile roaming esim - same as above.

In a nutshell the modem seems to be able to read and write esim and read pSIM in slot 1. It seems to be able to see the networks but under no circumstances will anything dial up and establish a connection.

Also tried factory reset and full reflash of 4.8.5 to no avail.

Thanks for the feedback. For the registration issue, please try the following steps:

  1. Edit SIM card settings and set TTL to 64
  2. Navigate to Modem AT Command page, disable IMS by running the following AT commands:
AT+QCFG="IMS",2
AT+QEFSSYNC=1
AT+CFUN=1,1
  1. If Tower Lock or Operator Lock is enabled, please disable it and try again
