I just bought AR300M (internal antenna) and I connected via ethernet to my current ISP Modem, my modem had a speed of around 250Mbps.
When connecting to the AR300M via wifi, I only get a max speed 70Mbps, is that a normal speed? the speed cut more than half of the original speed. is it normal?
summary:
AR300M ----- ethernet---------Modem
Phone wifi to Modem: 250Mbps
Phone wifi to AR300M: 70Mbps
It would be useful to know what region you set your router, In LuCi Wireless configs, and at what dBi you’re transmitting.
I can then replicate your exact configuration, and see if it matches.
But this aside, well…the little box is very very compact and practical, but has never been a strong workhorse
The GL-AR300M routers only have 2.4GHz 802.11b/g/n wifi, which is much slower than 5GHz 802.11ac wifi that your smartphone would have. Also, they only have 10/100Mbps Ethernet ports, so your modem connection is limited to maximum 100Mbps. These inexpensive routers do not have powerful processors.
I have a GL-AR300M16-Ext and do not even get 70Mbps over wifi, given the congestion on the 2.4GHz band in my area.
I do not work for and I am not directly associated with GL.iNet
