Hi,

I’ve been using the X3000 (Spitz AX) for several months and it’s generally been performing fairly well. However, as of late, it has been dropping the SCC when connected to T-Mobile. I have it band locked to N41 and N25. N41 signal is stronger so it is always the PCC but N25 signal strength is strong enough that it should stay locked on as SCC (RSRP 90, SINR 12), but it still intermittently drops at least a few times per day.

I am on the latest stable router and modem firmware versions. If I redo the manual settings for the bands, it will reconnect to N25 as SCC. It is frustrating to constantly check the router and redo the manual band settings to force it to reconnect to N25 as SCC.

Any thoughts?

Thank you

Please confirm the exact firmware version for router and modem. Many people claim they are on the latest but actually not using latest. I'm having similar issues but not quite as frequent as you. I have noticed that the modem does not seem to prioritize the bands and switch as expected. I am using 4.4.13 and RM520NGLAAR03A04M4G\_01.202.01.202. There was a change to band N41 in this latest modem/module firmware update. My PCC is band N71 and SCC is N41 but it switches to N25 which slows download speeds.

I am on router firmware 4.4.12 and modem firmware RM520NGLAAR03A04M4G\_01.202.01.202.

I just recently upgraded the modem firmware in the past week because of my issue but it didn’t fix the SCC dropping.

What was the N41 change in the latest modem firmware?

Also, just to clarify, this will happen regardless of band locking being on or off.

Change: Supported N41 with bandwidth 70 MHz
Yes, mine does the same thing. I use AT commands instead because the router applies them a lot quicker. I have a feeling that it has something to do with Aggregation and that the modem needs to drop into NSA periodically and connect to a LTE band for handshaking purposes. I'm trying to figure out which band/s it's using and needing. It's just a guess that this is the reason. I may try searching on the Quectel forum for a solution if it continues to be an issue.

Thanks for the feedback. I have been sticking to 5G SA so it shouldn’t be dropping to NSA. Even if I band lock to N25, N41, and N71 on SA, it will drop the active SCC at won’t pick up an alternative band to reconnect SCC.

I think the odd thing is that it seems to have started over the past few weeks prior to me doing any updates to the router or modem.

What AT command do you use to reconnect?

I typically only need to activate all bands: AT+QNWPREFCFG="mode\_pref",AUTO
And then I just activate 5gSA mode again: AT+QNWPREFCFG="mode\_pref",NR5G

It seems to connect back to N71 and N41 within a minute after these commands. For me it's only about once every few days that I need to do this. But the router itself never needs to be rebooted. I use command AT+QCAINFO to verify which bands it's using. I've added all of these commands to the AT Command Shortcut dropdown list so I don't need to enter them manually.
Band lock using: AT+QNWPREFCFG="nr5g\_band",1:2:3:5:7:8:12:13:14:18:20:25:26:28:29:30:38:40:41:48:66:70:71:75:76:77:78:79 and remove the bands you don't want to use.
It will all reset back to all bands if you do a reboot.

How can I check whether the SCC is dropped? Is this AT+QCAINFO? I'm currently using N41 as PCC and N25 as SCC under T-mobile 5G SA.

Also how can you add custom command to dropdown list?

I'm experiencing a sudden drop of download and upload speed and super long latency once every few days, and maybe this is related to my issue.

run the AT+QCAINFO command without the ? at the end. It will tell you what the PCC and SCC bands are.

You can edit and make whatever changes to the /www/views/gl-sdk4-ui-modemmanage.common.js.gz file you want. Directions can be found here: [Adding custom AT commands](https://forum.gl-inet.com/t/adding-custom-at-commands/36767)

If you would like a copy of my changes to the AT shortcut list, download the file found here: [https://t.ly/xpRP2](https://t.ly/xpRP2)

Restore this file as you would a backup file. It contains a new modemmanage file as listed above as well as a copy of the original file so it's easy to revert back if you want. You may need to reboot the router in order to see the list update.

Those are amazing. When the performance issue occurs again on my end, I'll check the PCC/SCC info, try your solutions and leave feedback.

Thanks guys!!

You can also force it into 4G LTE and then switch it back to 5GSA. It will literally disconnect the modem and need to reconnect but it seems to make a fast connection again. Can take a minute or so to reconnect. Still faster than a reboot.

Does anyone know if the X3000 can do CA of the same channel? For example, searching for nearby towers in the GUI, there are 2 different N41 channels coming from the same tower. If I band lock N41 only, could it do both N41 channels? I’ve tried bandlocking N41 only but have never seen both PCC and SCC as N41.

For anyone interested, I may have figured out my specific issue. I didn't realize the X62 modem only supports a max of 120MHz of sub-6GHz bandwidth. There are two N41 channels that I can lock onto, one being 90MHz and another being 100MHz which would make CA of the 2 N41 bands impossible with the X62. However, it would be possible with the X65.

Another thing I realized is that perhaps at times, the 100MHz N41 band has better reception which means it will only lock onto that band since it wouldn't be able to CA with N25 due to the combo exceeding the 120MHz bandwidth. When I am on the 90MHz N41 band, then the modem can CA with N25 since that is 25MHz near me, which would be a total of 115MHz.

Hope this helps someone!

If you mean bandwidth, that can be seen in the GUI by going to Internet -\> View More -\> Cells Info -\> dl\_bandwidth. My local tower has two N41 channels that have two different IDs. I can’t control which one it connects to but sometimes it connects to the N41 that has 100MHz of bandwidth and sometimes it connects to the one that has 90MHz of bandwidth.

What I was asking for is how do you know that one band is 100MHz and the other is 90Mhz. I'm sure it's a simple answer but not one I understand. Both ul\_bandwidth and dl\_bandwidth show 20M on my device. How does 20M correlate to MHz?

I obsessively check my router so I’ve seen it connect to 2 different N41 channels as seen by the “ID.” One of the channels has a dl\_bandwidth of 100M(hz) the other is 90M(hz). I’ve read that having a total of 190MHz of N41 bandwidth is pretty common, but I’m still learning about these things.

In your case, 20M should be the MHz, so I believe you’re connected to a channel with 20MHz bandwidth. Sounds like you might be on N25 or N71?

Actually, it's LTE Band 66. My router loves to drop down to 5G NSA. If I reboot or force into 5G SA, then it will connect to Band N71 and N41.

Band 66 is 20Mhz (100 === 20Mhz) and N41 is 100Mhz (12 == 100Mhz). Pretty much the max bandwidth supported by RM520

I remember seeing a list somewhere in the forums about what each number meant. I'll look for it. Typically, I see N71 and N41 when on 5G SA. I'll start keeping an eye on this. If I try to band lock, eventually the router locks up and I have to reboot. The modem module likes to drop to lower aggregation speeds and never seems to want to jump back up to higher speeds unless a reboot or manually forcing it to SA mode by using AT commands. This has always frustrated me with this device but I am also at the outskirts of the cellular signal I believe.
