GL-MT1300 Beryl - Did my USB Interface IC burn out?

Never used the USB port before on this router. Today I formatted a Samsung FIT 128GB usb key to ext4. Mounted up normally. While doing a large copy to the USB drive, samba errored in the middle. Tried reconnecting to the drive via samba and got an empty directory (drive had unmounted). Restarted the router. Nothing. I reformatted the USB and it shows up fine on other machines. But the Beryl seemingly does not recognize USB devices anymore. USB was somewhat warm when it happened but not melting or anything. Did the port die?

No sign of sda1 in /dev or /sys/block. blkid shows only the SD card and not /dev/sda1 as it should.

root@GL-MT1300:~# blkid
/dev/mtdblock5: TYPE=“squashfs”
/dev/mmcblk0: LABEL=“fileserver” UUID=“…” TYPE=“ext4”

If you don’t see any logs when you insert all kinds of USB devices, e.g. a usb key, mouse etc it may just burned.

I also notice a bit of a burning smell when used for long periods of time. Could never understand why.

Can you run the following in SSH and post the results:

lsusb

lsusb -t

root@GL-MT1300:~# lsusb
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

root@GL-MT1300:~# lsusb -t
/: Bus 02.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-mtk/1p, 5000M
/: Bus 01.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-mtk/2p, 480M

The router recognizes an internal USB 3.0 hub (5000M):

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub

/: Bus 02.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-mtk/1p, 5000M

Is this with the USB drive plugged in? If not, try again with it plugged in to see if a new entry for it shows up.

If you see a new entry, try running in SSH:

block detect

No new entries. Same as before.

Seems to confirm that the port has self-destructed. Sorry.

Is the router still under warranty?

Assuming it’s one year, yes.

Seems that it is burned. If your device still have warntty, pls talk with customer service from the purchase channel to find a solution.

Ok, thanks Friend, but its still working for now

Hello friend, would you happen to know whats the easytether driver for the GL-SFT1200? Is the same easytether driver used on the GL-MT1300

There is no easytethering driver for SFT1200.

Is 19.07.3+ the last driver easytether made, or did they make a higher driver? Where would I find the link?

Seems this is the case.

People said ipk of 1907 can work on 2102. But no update for new chipset etc.

You can also check their last update of the Andriod app. It is on 2018 Dec.

So project died.

Ok, thanks. I wonder if someone will ever take over the EasyTether setup?
