The system could just try all available BSSIDs and try to login.

It would be more relevant to know if relevant OSes actually do that because otherwise the advice to use hidden SSIDs together with BSSID rotation is highly impractical.

To be fair, the article does not argue for security, but for privacy. Specifically, the privacy of peoples' BSSID not being submitted to Apple and Google's geolocation database.
