GL-MT3000 USB Tethering Drops Constantly

We’re having a problem where an MT3000 Will not stay tethered to an iPhone.

The entire reason for purchasing the MT3000 was because it did USB tethering and I have a problem at the house where our Internet is down due to a fried ONT.

Performed the procedure precisely as it stated in the instructions: Enable hotspot on iPhone, Enable maximum compatibility, make sure the iPhone trusts the MT3000, enable tethering in the MT3000 UI.

  • Yes, The phone has been rebooted
  • Yes, we’ve configured it according to the instructions; Maximize compatibility is enabled

It constantly drops a tether and might go for a few minutes without a problem if we’re lucky.

Anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this?

  • Updated the firmware to the most recent version available from GL
  • Rebooted the phone and reconnected

FWIW: I tried multiple USB-C to SS USB-A cables and none of them are any different; the tether connection drops intermittently from seconds to minutes.

Turn off internet status monitoring for the tethering interface and see if it improves. It doesn’t fix a similar issue for me entirely but makes it a little better. Connections can last days instead of minutes or hours.

Yep, I tried that.

Didn’t work at all.

The only thing I didn’t try was turning off Wi-Fi on the iPhone.

I’m returning it to Amazon as a failed product. It really shouldn’t be that hard to get this to work and you really shouldn’t have to do all sorts of crazy things.
