Hi,

There was recently a thunderstorm in my area, causing a power outage. After the power restored, I can no longer access the Ethernet settings in the GL.iNet panel. However, Ethernet connections (WAN/LAN) work fine. In the Internet and Ethernet Port settings, it displays “Unknown error occurred. Please check the network environment or reboot the device.”. Even after rebooting the device several times, it never restored properly. A factory reset gets it working properly until I upload the archive file, and then it has this issue again. It was probably because of the sudden power loss in the middle of the router writing to the flash. How do I make sure this doesn’t happen again in normal circumstances? (Eg. when I unplug it)

(Internet page with the error, and Ethernet box does not show any information)

Version: v4.9.1-op25

Because a factory reset fixes the page and restoring the archive immediately brings the error back, the archive is restoring an invalid or corrupted configuration; this does not currently indicate damaged Ethernet hardware. Reset again and rebuild the settings manually rather than restoring that archive. Once everything works, create a new backup while still running the exact same router model and firmware version.

Whether the archive was created **before or after** the outage is important: if it predates the outage and was created on v4.9.1-op25, the repeatable failure may indicate a beta-firmware restore issue. Keep the archive for investigation, but do not post it publicly because backups can contain credentials and other sensitive settings; provide it only to GL.iNet staff through a private message if requested.

Normal unplugging should not usually corrupt configuration, but avoid removing power while applying settings, restoring a backup, or upgrading firmware. If outages are common, powering the router through a small UPS is the most reliable prevention.

I forgot to mention, the archive was created after the outage occurred. I also do not want to start from the beginning because I have a lot of complex configurations and custom scripts, VPNs, and client history that I don’t prefer removing/readding.

Because the archive was created after the outage, it contains the configuration that triggers the error. Restoring it wholesale cannot preserve everything while also removing the bad state.

To avoid rebuilding blindly, keep that archive and send it **privately** to GL.iNet Technical Support at [support@gl-inet.com](mailto:support@gl-inet.com) for inspection; do not post it publicly because it may contain VPN credentials and other secrets. Include the GL-MT3000 model, `v4.9.1-op25 beta3`, and note that a factory reset works but restoring this archive immediately reproduces the Ethernet-page error.

If you attempt recovery yourself, first create a clean backup after factory reset, then migrate only the required scripts and individual settings in stages. Avoid initially restoring network/Ethernet-related configuration; test the Ethernet page after each stage so the offending configuration can be isolated. Keep the original archive unchanged as a recovery reference.

Sounds like your config was corrupted and then you took a backup of those corrupted settings. Take backups before an incident. Backups after an incident are much less useful.

Don't restore the backup of the corrupted config and instead configure the unit from scratch.

Take a backup of the config after full setup in a healthy state as soon as possible.

Put critical equipment behind a quality uninterruptable power supply to prevent a storm from damaging your equipment.

Yeah, I figured that out. I haven’t made backups since the upgrade from v4.8.1 stable.
