GL-MT300N-V2 Error: Time Out

I just purchased this, but am getting an issue while trying to connect to an xfinity hotspot with a captive portal. I’m on the latest updated firmware, have tried reseting the router, but no matter what I do, it keeps timing out. Is there any way to resolve this?

You can refer to the documentation Connect to Captive Portal - GL.iNet Docs

@Tal

Are u seeing the captive portal screen?

If not there’s a few courses of action that may assist:

  1. Turn off DNS rebind
  2. First website to visit www.neverssl.com
  3. Connect first via a client device and then mac clone that mac address to the Mango.

I did this, too, but it didn’t change anything unfortunately. Still timing out

No, but I’ll check out the website neverssl. I turned off DNS rebind but that didn’t connect it to the wifi

Edit: cloned the MAC address. Still nothing

Bumping this because it’s still unresolved

So when you connect to xfinity WiFi it just said time out? When you connect to xfinity WiFi does it ask for username and/or password? Or is it open?

It only times out, I never get to the captive portal.

When you connect to xfinity WiFi does it ask for username and/or password? Or is it open?

It doesn’t connect to the WiFi at all, it times out. I do have a password I enter but it never gets further

I see. Can you do this again and get the log after it time out?

To get the log, ssh to the router and execute logread. Or you can go to advanced settings (luci) and get the log in status, system log.

Sorry for the late reply. Here is what the log gives (wasn’t sure which parts were relevant):

Seems the repeater is causing your pc to disconnect frequently so you got an timeout error.

In the log seems that you don’t have “auto connect “ ticked. Can you confirm that?

In repeater there is an option auto connect.

It’s off because I tried both settings to see if it would make a difference. Just turned it on again, and still getting the same timeout error though. Is there a way to make it such that my repeater isn’t disconnecting so frequently?

For this model when you connect repeater your own WiFi should not disconnects like that. So it should be something not known.

Can you let me know what is GLFi? Seems this is a problem. From the log it should be hex string?

GLFi is what I renamed the WiFi device, it connected with my mobile hotspot but won’t connect with my Xfinity

Hi Tal,

Xfinity requires an app to be installed on the phone.
If you are using a router connection, use the MAC clone feature to clone your phone’s MAC and try again.

It might because the Xfinity wifi is 5GHz wifi, but MT300N-v2 doesn’t support 5GHz wifi. I used my android phone to connect the Xfinity wifi first, then I clone the mac address to a GL-AR750 router. Therefore, I can use the Xfinity wifi now.

In that case, I’ll have to return the GL-MT300N to get the GL-AR750, right?
