GL-MT300N-V2 (Mango) does not connect to WiFI

I have just purchased a GL-MT300N-V2 (Mango) router and am trying to get it to connect to a specific WiFi network in Repeater mode. It refuses to connect!

In the UI, after attempting to connect to the intended WiFi from Internet > Repeater, I get the message:
“ERROR: Time out!”

I looked up the logs and got the following:

It can successfully connect to other networks, just not the one I bought it to connect to.
This is really frustrating.

I noticed that when successfully connecting to a WiFi network the logs show “wifi_join return=0”. The network I need it to connect to reports “wifi_join return=-5”.

I’ve tried both the latest firmware (102) and the latest testing firmware (104).

I’ve also tried setting the intended WiFi to different channels. I can’t change any other settings on the intended WiFi network.

Could anyone please offer some help here?
Currently this device is not able to fulfil the entire point of purchasing it.

After several frustrating hours of experimentation, I am convinced that the GL-MT300N-V2 (Mango) cannot connect to WPA Personal (WPA1) WiFi networks.

WiFi to connect to set to “WPA Personal” (FAILS):

I’m turning up a distinct lack of information on the topic.
I saw some mention that OpenWRT removed support for WEP but can’t see any references to WPA1.

I do not have the luxury of changing the settings on the Access Point I want the GL-MT300N-V2 to connect to or change it’s security mode.

Any ideas?

You can try to modify the /etc/config/wireless file and /etc/config/ssids file manually.
