GL-MT300N-V2 unable to be repeater for wifi network channel 13

Up to today I’ve been successfully using my GL-MT300N-V2 as a repeater for a Mifi device. The GL-MT300N-V2 connects to the Mifi’s wifi network in ‘repeater’ mode, and then I connect a device (Cisco VOIP phone) that only supports ethernet to the GL-MT300N-V2. This means the Cisco desk phone can effectively use the Mifi device’s network through the GL-MT300N-V2.

This suddenly didn’t work today because the GL-MT300N-V2 can’t find the Mifi’s wifi network anymore. If found the reason is that the Mifi has decided to go onto 2.4Ghz channel 13. The Mifi is provided by my work so I have no access to its settings to change what channel it chooses. I’m in Australia where ch 13 is legal, but my GL-MT300N-V2 came from Amazon so might’ve originally been shipped from the US (Australia’s Amazon actually ships a lot of things from the US directly).

My question is can I change the wifi regulatory domain to support channels 12-13 in repeater mode?

You can ssh to the router and change the wifi settings.

For Japan you can use up to channel 14.

uci set wireless.mt7628.country='JP'
uci set wireless.mt7628.region='5'
uci set wireless.mt7628.channel='13'
uci commit wireless
wifi

Depending on where you are, the usage of channel 13 might be forbidden.

No I’m overseas and I guess it’s coming here occasionally to use channel 13. And that’s part of the problem because my phone’s hotspot is being used and that sometimes gives channel 13 it’s a Xaiomi local phone.

I’m glad you mentioned this. I think I ran this code again twice and this time it actually read the channel 13, but it repeated the channel 13. And the thing is I have devices from the United States that don’t seem to connect to channel 13 either lol.

So there a way to get mango to accept the channel 13 hotspot and repeat it onto another channel instead? Thank you so much

No you cannot. The device is one-radio device so it will not work with 2 channels at the same time.

What you can do is to force your hotspot working on 1-11. Generally when you use compatiblity mode it is OK.

I have a Xiaomi 11T which I am using as a 5g hotspot. Don’t think it allows me to choose a channel. Unless, there is some hidden or not obvious settings section which I’m not aware of. Happy to hear suggestions on this.

Some of the things it does allow Select AP band (2.4/5), Support for 6th generation (on/off), security (WPA2/3 Personal).

MT300N-V2 is 2.4G only device.

If you have 5G wifi hostpot, you should choose a dual-band wifi router, e.g. AXT1800 and MT3000.

Sometimes it’s confusing that people talk about 5G in the meaning of Wi-Fi. For me it’s 5G like the cellular band, not 5 GHz like the Wi-Fi one.

But @YouGotName2022 you can just chose the AP band 2.4 - and it should be fine.
