I'm using the GL-X3000 in my motorhome. Up until now, it ran flawlessly, but right now during our vacation (on day 3), the cellular/LTE module keeps crashing.
To clarify: The router itself does not crash. I can still access the Web Admin panel without any issues, but the LTE section shows no status/information at all, and the connection is gone.
Background: I'm traveling internationally and switched from Vodafone to O2 Germany as my primary SIM because O2 is the only provider offering me an unlimited international roaming flat for my vacation. The crashes started after this SIM switch during roaming.
A manual reboot of the router fixes it temporarily, and everything works again for a while.
I saved the logs right before the last reboot and can provide them to support for analysis. Any ideas on how to fix this module dropout? Thanks!
If the modem firmware version is RM520NGLAAR03A03xxxxx, please view here to download the modem firmware for RM520N, and refer to this tutorial to update it to try
Try blocking all 5G SA Bands. That fixed it for me.
BTW: Are you sure that o2 will provide you with unlimited international data (roaming)? As far as I know, the fair use policy will block you at one point, at the latest after four months. That's at least what it states.
EDIT:
Maybe try the modem firmware update first. It seems mine is outdated as well; I will try the update later today.
I have the "o2 grow" plan with the unlimited data option added. This gives me the fair-use unlimited flat rate. However, since I'm only staying on vacation for four weeks, that won't be an issue anyway – I will be back in Germany within a month, which resets everything.
Regarding the modem firmware update: at that point, mine wasn't even switched on.
I traveled from Germany to Switzerland. In Switzerland, I stayed on the Vodafone network because O2 didn't work at all. However, with Vodafone, I only have 100 GB, so once I arrived at the campsite in France, I switched over to O2. That is when the drama started. At first, I didn't even realize that this was the cause.
Most of the time, the internet wouldn't run for more than one or two hours—actually, usually even less. The modem crashed, so I set up the E7500 as a Wi-Fi repeater. I also put another O2 SIM card with the same tariff in it just to test things out. But it didn't take long before the entire router crashed completely.
Claude advised me to enter the following commands to address aggressive cell handover (MBN Settings). I ended up having a stable internet connection all night:
bash
gl_modem -B 0001:01:00.0 AT AT+QMBNCFG="AutoSel",0
gl_modem -B 0001:01:00.0 AT AT+QMBNCFG="Select","ROW_Commercial"
Nevertheless, Claude says this is only a temporary workaround, as a memory overflow could still occur.
We previously encountered a similar issue on the O2 network. If the problem symptoms are quite similar like this, it can addressed by updating the modem firmware.
I have installed the update now and hope it runs better. After the update, everything has been running without errors so far, and now I just have to monitor it. Unfortunately, all the modem commands no longer work, and I can no longer disable this MBN in case problems do arise again.
To be honest, it wasn't running completely "smoothly" with my commands, but it was already an improvement...
I'm a bit anxious right now... I will wait and see... and all this in a place where I can't just easily fix things... oh boy.
