Just got myself this Splitz AX router, its great for the wan failover feature with LTE etc.
But just like my previous purchase of a Flint 2, the Splitz AX has the same default shipped firmware issue of missing the 3rd band of 5G WiFi channels from what I can see for use in the UK.
Unfortunately, I can't see any options even in advanced settings in Luci - there's no easy way of changing the WiFi country code?
The default WiFi country code for the 5G interface is listed in Luci as "00"?
Is there any op24 firmware available for the Splitz AX like I had to use previously on the Flint 2 - or is there some other way of correctly specifying the correct country code?
Hi Bruce, I don't doubt what your unit shows, but it's not what my unit allows/tells me and this unit is fully firmware updated as far as it will go from stock -
I must admit I'd never really thought about that i.e trying a different browser, I would be a bit shocked if that was the cause - as that wasn't the issue with the Flint 2.
I'll be back at my desk in about an hour, I'll try then, I only run Debian, but do have a good selection of browsers to test from......
After trying different configuration options and it not offering anything above channel 140, I needed to move the psu to the secure ups outlet and once it had powered back up, the correct channels have now become available.....
I don't know why they weren't in the 1st place, but it's now fully working as I'd expect - great bit of kit.
Thanks for your update.
Probably since the router is scanning the DFS channel when the wireless start/restart, causing it is not displaying the 3rd (also DFS) channels.
@bruce but that's also my original point - the country code is incorrectly configured for '00' there's no options to be able to correctly set it up to GB/UK etc
As per previous experience with my Flint 2 which ships as default with 'BE' etc, in the UK channels 149-161 are exempt from DFS requirements, so irrespective of channel activity should always show as available to be configured just like the low end of 1st band - no DFS requirements or stipulation - always displayed as available for selection...
@bruce I'm currently doing various configuration tests with both the Splitz AX and the Flint 2 - comparing WiFi 5Ghz channel selection, availability and actual use.
So far I'm finding the actual working channels that the Splitz AX will accept AND then actually use takes a fair while for the unit to work out.
Compared to the Flint 2 - that just seems to actively use any channel that you configure....which is running the op24 firmware.
I'm back in the original scenario that band 3 selection availability in the menu has vanished on the Splitz AX......
The WiFi 5Ghz driver/firmware looks like it has some issues and I don't know if that is just down to not implementing yet the country selection functionality or something else - the 5Ghz element appears fairly basic or buggy/slow in speed of setup at the moment.
I would guess it might happen because of the hard-coded (EU?) country code inside the device.
Plain OpenWrt does not care about it, but the GL firmware does.
The Flint 2 was a direct purchase from your UK store, the X3000 from Amazon UK (faster shipping and a large discount code available - but actually your amazon store).
Is there a particular file I need to look at via ssh access? (sorry just seen the filename above)
I do believe it's due to not using the country code as I couldn't get the Flint 2 to work correctly until I used the op24 firmware - with the main firmware even with GB selected that didn't disable DFS on band 3.
I've just been trying some tests to use band 2 - channel 136 - both main gui and luci say it's selected, enabled and apparently configured - but all WiFi sniffing suggests it's not broadcasting anything, even though it thinks it is, it's as if it's just sulking.
OK, checked via ssh, oh look the default country code is DE (Germany), I've changed this to GB and rebooted the router.
Partial success, whether it's down to the country code change or just the reboot, the WiFi is no longer sulking and is actively working on channel 136 (band 2). Unfortunately band 3 channels are still not being listed at all.
Yes success, changing to using US as the country code in the /etc/config/wireless configuration file and performing a reboot has enabled the selection of the band 3 channels - for good measure I had already pre-coded channel number before the reboot.
So that would imply just like the Flint 2, the default (and newest available) GL firmware isn't implementing the country code correctly for GB and doesn't allow it's selection via luci etc - so trying to select any of the band 3 channels can be problematic.
