GL-X3000 Telefonica (O2 Germany) - no SMS over 5G SA

Hi,

my GL-X3000 cannot send or receive SMS with an O2 / Telefonica Germany SIM while it is on 5G SA.

Device: GL-X3000
Firmware: OpenWrt 21.02-SNAPSHOT
Kernel: 5.4.211
Modem: Quectel RM520N-GL
Modem firmware (ATI):
Quectel
RM520N-GL
Revision: RM520NGLAAR03A03M4G

Provider: O2 / Telefonica Germany
APN: internet

In the GL-X3000 web UI under "Cellular Information" I see:
Mode: NR5G-SA TDD
Band: 78

Mobile data over 5G SA works fine, but SMS does not:

  • SMS sent from the GL-X3000 never arrive on the phone (WebUI shows “UNKNOWN” / “Send failed”).
  • Incoming SMS to the SIM are also not shown on the GL-X3000.
  • Neither sending nor receiving SMS works even after a reboot.

With the same SIM in a normal smartphone, SMS send/receive works without any problems.

I can provide AT command output if needed.

Did you enable 5G Plus in your contract?
O2 is known for not providing all feature on 5G SA - using 5G NSA is the solution then.
