Hi there, GX-XE3000 user here.
Am I right in thinking there two things to update on the router?
I see the main firmware (now 4.9 beta) and the more unusual Modem Firmware.
Is there anything else to update? Going to “fully” update it soon but want to do everything.
The GL-XE3000 is a stable router for me so no urgent need to update. I’m just trying to my sensible maintenance.

Correct gl inet firmware (the 4.9) and the modem are the two things from a user perspective when it comes to updates. Hold off on installing the 4.9 beta on your device. Even when 4.9 goes stable for your router model, I generally tell people to wait and watch the forums to see what others are saying about said firmware (unless there is a security update that is super important on the router in question)
Generally I advise to not bother with the modem update unless you are dealing with Gl inet support.
Updated the Modem firmware today, I had .201, now .202 and working well.
My advice, once you find a modem firmware that you are happy with, quit messing with it. You won’t get new features you need or better performance most of the time, but you might find some firmware doesn’t work as well with your carrier or tower. It is a crapshoot. Just not work it to me.
Understood, this was the official update though. My Sim is SKY so uses the o2 Network.
What do you mean official update? GL officially says if you are not having problems you should probably not update your modem firmware.
It’s update now, router still works. As my network is Sky (o2) the update was needed.
