Sorry to hear about your plight, but what did you expect would happen when you placed an unauthorized device, from a Far East country of origin, on an enterprise network?

Yep any decent modern security department will spot them in seconds.

I believe there is some config you can do to mask the device identity though.

Exactly will masking the identity make it not detectable?

Cannot answer that for you, but I can answer this.

Don’t play games that you can’t afford to lose mate.

If your thing is based on tricking employers…..

Sorry to hear that. How long did it take? Was it like instant or you used it for some time?

You may want to contact a tax attorney if you were pretending to be in a different jurisdiction than where you live - that could have some pretty serious consequences.

Mimicking other hardware is a compatibility feature that can trick things into working when there are compatibility issues and not a magic stealth mode, there are an infinite number of ways people can detect you're committing fraud.

bla bla bla

I can only suggest, given your erudite response to the comments here, that your use of the KVM was only the excuse they needed to fire you.

Bad luck - and stick by your employment terms next time.

What exactly do you need help with?

None of us cant help you get your job back if you were doing something against your company IT policy. You roll the dice with your job trying to get around those policies you agreed to joining the company.

In some companies they have multiple things in place to to catch this kind of stuff

We also can't help you hide your location from your next job, in many locations this is an actual crime and helping to obfuscate where you're working from could implicate us in the fraud (it's always a bit scary when official corporate representatives help in those threads, I'd rather not have the brand embroiled in international lawsuits and focus on building awesome stuff instead).

All we can help with is the aftermath, and when a remote employee at a place I worked was caught living in a country he wasn't being paid in (nothing to do with a KVM solution), the company lawyers suggested we report it to the local tax offices to cover ourselves. You'll likely want to figure out your own exposure, because you can bet that if the company was held liable for the tax implications we'd pass it onto the fraudulent employee.
