I only recently replaced my Nighthawk RAX45 with a new Flint 2 and am having problems with my HomePods. I have them on the 2.4g network even though they were on 5g for the nighthawk and worked fine. They keep dropping the network or telling me they are on a different network than my iPhone or Apple TV even though they are on the same network. My iPhone offers to switch them to the same named network and when I do it seems OK for a while. Later it either tells me there is no connection or that the network is wrong and offers to switch to the network of the same name.
System is latest update - 4.7.0
Not sure what Enable Randomized BSSID is, but it is on. Turned off Network acceleration thinking that might be the problem but no help. Running Tailscale. Please let me know if you need more info or suggestions on what to try.
If you are using RAX45, are the HomePod and iPhone connected to the same SSID? That is, the SSID of RAX45 2.4GHz and 5GHz are the same? In this case, is the HomePods normal to connect to the RAX45?
If your HomePod supports 5GHz WiFi, please connect it to 5GHz first.
You can turn off Randomized BSSID and see if there is any improvement.
If the HomePod prompts to disconnect from the GL router, the GL GUI > Client page will show that the HomePod is online or offline?
Thank you so much for your help. Sorry I was confusing in my post. I no longer use the RAX45.
I tried to connect my computer upstairs to 5g and it dropped a lot and was actually slower than the 2.4g. When I tried 5g for the HomePods through the house it dropped a lot more.
I turned off Randomized BSSID and will report back if anything changes. So far one of two HomePods in the garage is working but the other says offline. I will try to reboot it and see if that helps.
The connection is unstable may be due to the fact that the HomePod and Router are too far away, or there is a little interference around.
You can manually change the 5G channel, such as CH36, 40, 48, 52.
Could it be that the connection is unstable due to the fact that the HomePod and Router are too far away?
Thanks for the help. I had all avenues open 5G 2.4 G 5G guest and 2.4 guest. I turned off everything except for 5G and now everything seems fine.
I downloaded a few different apps and didn’t really like any of them, but one of them showed me how much strength was in the Wi-Fi as I walked around the home. According to that app, it was 41 with my phone on the router and at worst it was 65 down in the garage where the HomePod was kicking off. According to their scale 65 was still good for video streaming.
If there is an iPhone app for checking Wi-Fi that you could suggest I would very much appreciate it. Most of them sucked and only did an Internet speed test. They were all pretty invasive. They wanted to know my location, access to Bluetooth, and even my mother‘s maiden name
I would like to use a Wi-Fi strength meter to figure out where best to put the router so I can access it no matter where I am in the house.
Have you set the SSID of Main (Private) WiFi of 2.4G and 5G to the same name?
There is really no useful WiFi strength detection APP for the iPhone, probably because the iOS is relatively closed, you can try wifiman.
Generally speaking, reading WiFi may require you to obtain your location, etc. The system will classify the permission to obtain WiFi information and position it, I do not know.
