Another option would be that they check TTL of the packages.

Change the TTL like so:

echo 65 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_default_ttl

when johnex posted that I went yup.

is that ttl change the same as

iptables -t mangle -I POSTROUTING 1 -j TTL --ttl-set 65
