Hello. I tried to update the firmware of my GL-AR300M16-ext to openwrt-19.07.7-ath79-generic-glinet_gl-ar300m-lite-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin. The update seemed to take quite a long time compared to my other GL travel routers so after about 20 minutes I cycled power. Now when the unit boots up I don't get an IP. I tried searching through the forums and with a static IP of 192.168.1.x or 192.168.8.x nothing pings and no pages boot up. I tried the 1.1/uboot.html and got nothing. At least on my other routers after pressing the reset button for 30 seconds I would get into some sort of recovery page. Is there anything I can do to this router to get it back to it's factory settings? I'm assuming I didn't use the right bin file above or did I just not give it enough time?
Looking at the file name you listed:
openwrt-19.07.7-ath79-generic-glinet_gl-ar300m-lite-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin
and looking at the file name for newer version of the generic OpenWrt for the AR300M16 is this:
openwrt-23.05.4-ath79-generic-glinet_gl-ar300m16-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin
I would agree that you loaded the wrong file, as the gl-ar300m-lite is not the same router as the ar300m16
Have you looked at the uboot tutorial at:
Lastly, why are you trying to put an old, unsupported version of generic OpenWrt, on your AR300M16?
Thanks Eric for getting back with me. I recently found a site that had wifi pineapple firmware for the GL's and I successfully updated one of my GL's. I went to do this one and your right I must have grabbed the wrong one. I saw AR300M and thought I was good. I'll follow that Debrick via Uboot link you sent me. I hope that works. I'll be happy just to get it back to something resembling a functioning router.
I got it. Thanks for the help Eric! The instructions from the link in your reply was what I was missing. For some reason the mango GL I have I was able to recover just by pressing reset after boot up. This one, the AR300M16, I needed to follow the instructions of holding the reset when and during bootup. Soon as I got the blink code I knew things were on the up. Now I have the latest GL firmware on there and it's working great. Again thanks for your help! Looks like they don't make a 19.07.7 for this model so it'll have to stay a router for now.
