I have an RTX 3070i and it is the only board (the ASUS ProArt B550 does not have its own).
I tried connecting to the HDMI port on it and also bought a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter (as it runs DP) at 4K. I also tried setting the dummy display it creates (I assume it is this EDID stuff) and setting it to 4K using NVIDIA control panel and then duplicating it, but to no avail. I was hoping I’d see the BIOS upon power-up via the KVM but I don’t, so I'm assuming it is a ghost display issue.
I’ve tried all the trouble-shooting steps like “Duplicate” (which messes up the 4K side on the local screen) and disabling monitors etc., and all the AI suggestion so far. I’m stuck with just a second desktop when remoting in.
The BIOS will only be displayed on the main monitor, and if you've ever used a dual-screen monitor, you'll know that only one screen will display the BIOS screen, which is the problem with COMET.
If you just want to be able to display BIOS on both your local monitor and COMET, either you unplug your local monitor or you buy an HDMI Splitter 1 in 2 Out
An HDMI splitter is the direction I went. I wanted to make sure both local and remote displays were identical and the system didn't randomly decide to switch the primary display. It was a cheap and easy solution that doesn't burn an on-board video port.
Thanks. First, I tried a DP splitter to no avail. So, I returned that and bought a 4-way HDMI splitter. Of course, things can be tricky so I turned off/on the display and reset the splitter each time. I can get the splitter to work to the monitor but as soon as I plug in the KVM, it “goes out of range” on the main display (I’d expect it to not have any effect on the main display, so I am flummoxed). I’ve tried new 8K HDMI cables also. I’m basically spinning my wheels on this; maybe the Comet isn’t suitable for me.
Personally I can't wait for the Comet Pro with HDMI passthrough. I also have some race conditions with my HDMI splitter connecting my KVM switch to the Comet and a local monitor (when the KVM switch reboots I don't get a video signal), luckily I have a smart power switch so I can just toggle the powered splitter on and off and it generally clears the problem (this isn't an issue with the Comet, it also happens when only my local monitor is connected to the splitter).
Generally, you need to configure the EDID of the Comet to match the resolution of your local monitor before connecting it to the HDMI splitter. Otherwise, issues may occur.
