iPad keeps disconnecting from Flint 2

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone would be able to look at the log below and tell me why my iPad might be disconnecting so frequently? I’ve tried doing a Wi-Fi scan to find channels with the least interference and put my 2.4 GHZ channel on channel 11, and my 5GHZ channel on channel 48. 2.4 GHZ is set to 20 MHZ and 5 GHZ is set to 40 MHZ bandwidth. Everything else has a steady signal, it’s just my iPad. I mean a small apartment and am one room away from the router. The router is on the latest firmware which I downloaded a few days ago.

Hi,

Thank you for providing the logs and the detailed information.

From the logs, we noticed that the iPad appears to be repeatedly reconnecting between the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. In some cases, the interval between band changes is only around 10 seconds.

Could you please confirm whether you are currently using v4.9.1 or v4.9.1-op25? Please also let us know the iPadOS version on the iPad.

Also, are the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks currently using the same SSID? If they are using the same SSID, could you please temporarily set different SSIDs for the two bands and connect the iPad only to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi for a while to see whether the disconnection still occurs?

I am using v4.9.1 . The iPadOS version is 26.6 . The 2.4/5ghz SSIDs are combined, but my iPad usually doesn’t have an issue with combined SSIDs. I tried to separate them and it does seem to have helped, but I’d prefer to keep them combined as one hotspot if possible.

As the v4.9.1-op25 firmware uses a different wireless driver, you may can try upgrading to v4.9.1-op25 to see if there is any improvement.

If the issue still occurs on op25, please try disabling the Wi-Fi roaming assistance features for both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz interfaces.

In LuCI, go to Network → Wireless, click Edit for the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi interfaces, and disable the roaming-related options if they are enabled, including:

These features assist a client in discovering or transitioning between BSSs; after disabling them, the iPad can make its own band/BSSID selection without these AP-side roaming suggestions.

Thank you for your reply! What is the difference between V4.9.1 and op25 4.9.1? I upgraded to V4.9.1 when my router prompted me to upgrade. I have looked in Luci but there is no roaming option, just General Setup, Wireless Security, and Advanced Settings. WLAN Roaming isn’t visible.

Hi,

The v4.9.1 firmware you are currently using and v4.9.1-op25 are two different firmware branches.
The standard v4.9.1 firmware for Flint 2 is based on the MediaTek SDK, while the op25 firmware is based on a newer OpenWrt branch and uses a different wireless driver stack. Therefore, Wi-Fi behavior can be different between the two versions.

The WLAN Roaming page we mentioned is available in LuCI on the op25 firmware. It is therefore expected that you do not see this option on your current standard v4.9.1 firmware.
Since separating the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz SSIDs improved the issue, you could also try the v4.9.1-op25 firmware to check whether the behavior changes with its different wireless driver.
