I've spent the entire day trying to do this. There are two official how-to documents for this. Neither work. I found a few people on the forums talking about how to do it. However all the links are now dead and gone. I've tried old firmware, new firmware, the "clean version" that just has luci. I've tried the OpenWRT firmware for this router. I've tried all three drivers.
I have easytether running on a large linksys so I know my phone and usb-c cable are good.
Has anyone been able to do this in 2025? Or is it just something that isn't possible now that all the dependencies required have dead links pointing to them?
I got it working. I guess posting this helped some how. Instead of deleting it I'll post what worked for the next guy.
Install the lowest version firmware version official offered. Then upgrade to the highest firmware in the browser. It's not 4x. It'll give you 3.0.2 something or other. When you download the easytether drivers don't do -openssl like some people tell you. It's actually -tiny that you need. It's not LEDE like some posts say either. 19.07.3\ramips\mt76x8\easytether-usb-tiny_0.8.9-5_mipsel_24kc.ipk is what you want.
All of this is stuff from forums, but there's a lot of conflicting information. The instructions for 3.x GL-MG300N work.
