Is MAC whitelist supported? // MAC address randomisation doesn't apply to guest wifi network?

Is a whitelist MAC filter possible on the GL-E750 Mudi v2, firmware v4.0?

Also, I’ve randomised my router’s guest wifi mac address, but when I connect to the guest wifi, it’s not using that address that I specified, according to tools like wireshark. It’s using the default address with an OUI associated with gl.inet.

A related issue is that my router is saying my client (laptop), connected via wifi is using a randomised MAC. But I did not specify a cloned address on my laptop, which I do in Gnome settings > Wifi > (myssid) > cloned address. The field is empty, which normally means it’s using the default mac. But my wlan mac as shown in ip addr is indeed different to the address shown in clients.

Hi

Yes, the Mudi v2 supports MAC filtering.

Please refer to the following documentation for configuration:

(If you can’t find the corresponding option, please try upgrading the device firmware to the latest v4.8.4 beta version.)

Regarding the BSSID issue:

Since the Main or Guest SSID interfaces are bridged to their respective bridges (br-lan or br-guest), and those bridges are the actual interfaces handling communication, Wireshark will display the MAC address of the bridge.

However, if you are connected to the Guest network, the MAC address should be randomized.
Please check whether the device is actually connected to the Guest SSID, and whether Wireshark is capturing on the correct interface.

Regarding the mismatch between the Clients page and the actual IP/MAC address of the connected device, please check/try the following:

  1. Make sure the device (e.g., your laptop) is connected only via Wi-Fi and not through other interfaces (such as Ethernet or a second wireless adapter), otherwise the Clients list may show multiple entries for the same device.

  2. Use Wireshark to capture traffic and verify the actual MAC address being used.

Hi. Thanks for the comprehensive response.

It turns out I must have been looking on the wrong interface. MAC address is indeed randomised.

I also updated to the beta firmware version and can see mac filtering now.

Thank you!
