I am running Flint 2 and even with AdGuard Home, I am using 31% of the 1 GB of RAM that Flint 2 provides. A lot of routers are coming with just 512 KB these days due to the crazy memory prices. What functions are you using that would actually consume more than 1 GB.

docker maybe, high volume file transfers.

Only reason could be the DPI, but for adguardhome I completely agree.

DPI also fits in the 1 GB RAM on my Flint 1 and Flint 3. So not hearing an issue so far.

Asus is providing 256 MB Flash and 2 GB RAM on their best routers (like GT-BE25000 and GT-BE98 Pro). The 256 MB flash is NAND which cannot take repeated read/write cycles. So if you want to use AdGuard, I guess you buy a model that supports Merlin, load up Entware and run it from a USB stick. Seriously, that is how it works with most Asus models (exception is the GT-BE19000AI).

The Flint 4 from GL.iNet will have eMMC 64GB and 1GB RAM. With AdGuard Home & DPI, having the eMMC is great for all the log files and data created by those functions. Yes, it would have been nice to have 2GB, but the Flint 4´s eMMC 64GB is way better than what most competitors are doing, and I would argue possibly more important than getting 2 GB of RAM.

Are you using vanilla OpenWRT snapshot on Flint 2? If yes, I would suggest using 25.12.4 which is very stable and has latest commit MT76 wireless drivers (from 2026-03-21). I am using irqbalance and hardware flow offloading and both functions work great. If I run snapshot, the snapshot builds recently have been pretty unstable including very high CPU load on Flint 2.

I use from master directly :+1::grinning_face:, so far no issues besides unknown corner cases but there are realtek commits going on although this is more for the zyxel switches but some changes may also target realtek nics in general.

While 1 GB is perfectly fine for routing, AdGuard Home, VPNs, and other traditional networking tasks, containerized workloads can consume memory much more quickly. Even lightweight services such as Home Assistant integrations, MQTT brokers, monitoring stacks, automation tools, or custom applications can easily push memory usage beyond what I'd be comfortable running on a 1 GB device.

My concern isn't that the Flint 4 won't work today. It's that a premium Wi-Fi 7 router should have enough RAM headroom for advanced OpenWrt users who run Docker and additional services. For that audience, 2 GB feels like the more future-proof choice.

Just run containers on other hardware that is spec’d and made for it? As someone else suggested, use a minipc. If not for the router then for the containers. Someone else mentioned but it isn’t turnkey - if you are trying to run docker on your wireless router, you shouldn’t need a turnkey solution. I am sure the VAST majority of users don’t care one bit about running docker on their router. Lots of reasons not to, which are best served for another discussion. Is more than >1gb better than <=1gb, sure, but it isn’t a deal break imo. YMMV.

I don’t get the pearl clutching going on over >1gb. I have two 1gb routers that are using about 600MB, but 300MB of that is syslog-ng. That’s with mutlple add ons working.

The Flint 2 already meets all my networking needs, but if I’m buying a premium router, I’d expect it to have more memory than my previous one. I guess that's the point people are making.

It’s not more memory that makes a router “premium”. It is not even a spec most manufacturers advertise, about the performance only time will tell.

Could we get a proper confirmation from the staff if the SFP and the 10G ports are a combo or not? It’s an important feature to have in my opinion.

Maybe @Dipin could shed some light on this?

So too for me! I have an 8 port 2.5 gig switch with only one spare port for testing / ad hock connections at my desk - two 1 gig ports on the current router and one 2.5 gig going on the router (not a Gl.Inet) to the switch so having a router with 8 ports will be fantastic…..

If there is no MESH then an access point configured to the 802.11r standard will work for me and from this post:-

it seems there is little to no difference between MESH and 802.11r anyway… (assuming it will be the same as the Flint3).

In addition the the above if the 4 will be the same or better than the 3, the IoT, and the Content filtering, simple MLO setup… It can’t get much better than that.

It's not a combo. SFP and 10G Ports can be used simultaneously.

Also will the sfp port support 2.5Gbps sticks or just 1 and 10 like the UCG Fiber? @Dipin

Two simultaneous 10G ports completely changes the game here and allows us to properly have a 10G LAN while receiving 10G from the ISP. That’s what I was hoping to ear.

AFAIK Flint 4 seems to have 2GB of DDR4, at least according to the official specs: GL-BE14000 / Flint 4 - GL.iNet

Last time I checked there was only a hero section with the “Notify me” button … the rest of the page is quite recent, and we finally have the specifications, so no more guessing … I guess :grin:

Strange, last time it was 1Gb. They have upgraded it?
