Um. If I read the specs right, I can have a 1G WAN, and two 10G LAN ports. So my two servers can do 10G between them, or feed 10G to a LAN switch.

You would need to use the 2.5gbe ports for WAN unless you can make the 1gbe port a WAN port. Kind of like what I do on my flint 4 which is make the 2.5gbe ports both LAN and then WAN is 1gbe port. Requires some tweaking in Luci but is easy.

Was this changed recently? It was originally reported as a combo port. Can both ports sustain 10 gigabits independently?

I don't know if my plan will be possible or not, but until I upgrade my fiber optic connection, I want to use the GbE port as a WAN and everything else, including the SFP+, as a LAN.
Actually I think the 2gb ram is pretty nice.
I was looking to my Flint 2 contrack status, but with a heavy congested network with 40 devices and alot of pbr and banip rules, i noticed that I'm almost to the max of contrack count so when you think about it under faster ports this really is a good idea to have a increased ram size.
More RAM is definitely good

Absolutely! Like what I've been saying all along, for this to be a meaningful upgrade over previous flagship routers, GL.iNet needs to upgrade key specs like RAM. Even with RAM prices being where they are, they're only using DDR4, which is less affected by the AI boom than DDR5. 2GB will give the Flint 4 plenty of headroom for the foreseeable future. Would I have liked more RAM? Sure, but 2GB will be plenty for now. Now if only the OpenWRT Two can give us an update on what its specs will be.
I feel like the Flint 4 is just missing out on PoE to make it perfect.

Then buy the Flint 3. If you can't afford that, then buy the Flint 2.

$500 is actually high prosumer territory then, UCG Fiber + U7 Pro XG together don’t cost that much..
But then it doesn’t have usb ports and flint 4 doesn’t have poe or expandable storage so not directly comparable.

Where did you get this number? There is no MSRP yet.
The price increase from 1GB to 2GB would be $20 at most.
I can’t imagine the MSRP will be more than $230.

This will be a significant upgrade for Flint 2 users.
I have no idea what the MSRP will be. I didn’t mean to mislead, and I’ve deleted the post accordingly. What I meant was, if the cost of 1gb of memory is $10, then 2gb might be $20; that would translate into an extra $30 to $50 in list price. Adding PoE on top would be another jump. Some of the existing consumer routers with 2x 10Gbe, 4x 2.5Gbe, 4x 1Gbe, Triband Wifi 7 are north of $300. So all I meant was these add-ons would be pushing the price up.

Yes, I agree. I don’t think most GL-iNet customers would benefit from PoE. Besides it has too many implications: you need to redesign the PCB and you need a much beefier power supply.
If you need PoE, you can easily add a PoE switch, but you can’t add more RAM or faster ports.

You do know that the Flint 2 and 3 are still available for purchase, right? Or are you looking to buy the Flint 4 at a Flint 2 price? Either you go and get a better job or you need to get real here. The Flint 4 is a flagship device and should have good specs. Keeping the RAM at 1GB just so that you can afford it is ridiculous. $20-$50 is nothing for most people, and we can easily justify it if the specs are right.
I think “for poor people“ is a very poor choice of words.
I like GL-iNet because the combination of price, features, and low power consumption works for me. I don't like paying for something I don't need. More RAM is an advantage for every user, even if it only means you'll receive updates for longer. If, on the other hand, you don't need PoE, it only has drawbacks: higher power consumption, a more complex PCB, greater cooling requirements, and a more expensive power supply.
Then there’s the question: Which version: PoE, PoE+, or PoE++.
Would you be willing to pay twice as much for the same device but with PoE++ ports? I certainly wouldn’t.
And if you really need it, you can easily add it via adapter.
GL.iNet products already provide tremendous value for the money. Forget about PoE. There have been a couple of guys who questioned the wisdom of adding an extra 1GB of RAM. If they're this worried about $20-$50, then get a better job. I already stated that there are other products that cater to people with a more limited budget. What's wrong with a Flint 3? So are we going to hold an entire product line hostage because there are people who can't afford an extra $20-$50? The Flint 2 and 3 don't become obsolete because the Flint 4 is coming out. Progress must not and cannot be stopped because some people can't keep up. The Flint 4 isn't going to cost $500, and that's a gross exaggeration. Even if GL.iNet designs a $500 router, what is the problem there? If the value is there, people will buy. Do all of their products have to be affordable? BMW and Apple are doing fine, and they don't cater to people from the lower classes.
